I was an Xbox gamer for a long time and recently made the switch over to PlayStation. I bought this game based on the reviews and because it was both vilified and adored because of its difficulty. This game alone validated my decision to go over to PlayStation. I give this game a rating of somewhere in the vicinity of 9.8/9.9 because no game is perfect. I recently purchased the pc version and started the journey all over again. Be warned this game will either make or break you.

The gameplay itself is quite good, and fighting enemies is fun, but there are a lot of frustrating issues outside of the combat. The game does a poor job of explaining the weapons. You can see their names and some properties, but it doesn’t really tell you what those properties do. I would like to see clear explanations so I can compare weapons properly. This is especially confusing early in the game, when you’re still trying to understand how everything works. There are also many areas you can’t access when you first encounter them, but the ability to reach them isn’t unlocked until almost the very end of the game. You end up looking at these areas dozens of times without knowing when or how you’ll be able to reach them. There are even places where you try to go and simply lose health. It would have been much better if the game gave you some indication that you can’t access them yet, or showed you the unaccessible places once or twice so you understand that you need to come back later. Instead, the upgrade is given near the end, which makes all those inaccessible areas feel frustrating. Multiplayer is also poorly designed. Progression only counts for the host, so the second player is basically playing without making meaningful progress. Permanent upgrades should also carry over to the second player's own session. On top of that, dropped items are not shared or instanced for each player, so only one person can pick them up. You also can’t enter the house together in coop, even though entering the house is important for progressing the story. I don’t understand why both players can’t simply enter separately and continue the story. It feels unnecessarily restrictive. Act 3 also feels pointless. You basically go back to earlier areas, collect a few things, and then fight the final boss again to unlock the true ending. After that, you get around 30 seconds of extra cutscenes, and that’s it. The boss doesn’t do anything different, there’s no new boss, and there’s barely any additional content. There is also no way to play the endless mode in coop, which feels like a strange limitation. Overall, the gameplay is really fun and the combat is enjoyable, but outside of that, it feels like the game is missing a lot.

I don't do reviews often, I also don't often play roguelites. I used to hate them and never touched them. Tried this game on ps4 and hated it(100% skill issue). Didn't touch it for years, came back on my PC and gave it another shot after sort of getting into roguelite style games(Only a few of them though). I can genuinely say that this is the best roguelite I have ever played and one of the absolute most unforgiving ones(Couple of my friends that play the ♥♥♥♥ out of roguelites agree here) But with how unforgiving it is, it is also so incredibly rewarding. I had an absolute blast on my way to 100%ing the achievement list, between the gunfights, mob variety and technique required for each one, to the graphics and the interesting story that always kept you guessing for the next step/clue to what is going on lol. This game gets an 11/10 from me, someone that wrote it off at first and ended up falling in love with it.
