You’re either going to love this game or hate it. When the game was first announced, I expected something similar to Cuphead, so I was really excited for it. After playing it, though, I realized it’s actually very different from Cuphead. Personally, I didn’t mind the change in direction. The closest comparison I can make is Doom, but on a much smaller scale. The price is fair and I think it’s worth what they’re asking. My biggest problem is the length. The game is simply too long, and the missions become repetitive enough that you eventually start getting tired of it. I honestly think cutting 2–3 hours would have made the experience much better. Since I went in expecting something closer to Cuphead, I was also disappointed by the number of bosses. There aren’t many, and most of them are pretty easy. The game overall is way too easy, even on the highest difficulty, so don’t expect much of a challenge. One thing I really enjoyed was the weapon variety. Combined with the game’s atmosphere and jazz soundtrack, it makes the combat a lot of fun, especially early on. The Beethoven symphony was also a great surprise and easily my favorite section of the game. Unfortunately, the longer you play, the more noticeable the repetition becomes. The story doesn’t help much either. It’s pretty average and doesn’t have anything particularly interesting going on, which is a shame because the game’s setting and atmosphere had a lot more potential. I also wish the power-ups, like the spinach and coffee, were available more consistently. It would have been much more fun if you could use them regularly and actually build your playstyle around them instead of only finding them in specific areas. Overall, I had a good time with the game, especially at the beginning. The atmosphere, weapon variety, combat, and jazz soundtrack are all great, but the excessive length, repetition, easy bosses, and average story hold it back. Still, for the price, I’d say it’s worth giving a shot.
A fun fps shooter, combined with an engaging story, and a quirky art style, make this a great game. Took a little over 24 hours to finish fully. The characters and plot were enjoyable, and kept me playing to see how everything would end. Though 99% of the game is in black & white, you really don't notice it. There were enough little side quests to keep me occupied, without seeming burdensome. The weapons were ok, but could use slightly more variety, such as a long range weapon, and upgrades for the unlockable pistol. The baseball mini game, though fun, also became pointless after the one weapon unlock it achieves. If you're looking for a fun, casual shooter, with a neat storyline, I highly suggest trying the game!
CHOOEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!
Doom meets Steamboat Willy. It's great.
Great art style, great voice actors, very below average gameplay. I'm 2 hours in, and the last hour hasn't been fun... the weapons are bad (I only have a pistol and shotgun; they don't even seem to do different amounts of damage or function differently at all), level design isn't great, either. It's visually fun and will make you smile with the art style they implemented, but the gameplay leaves a LOT to be desired. Enemies are boring, repetitious, and playing the levels feels like a chore. I think I'm at the point where I just delete it and admit that my high expectations weren't met, and the game fell far short of being worth my time. There are better games to play, I could go outside and exercise, work on my business, etc, and MOUSE PI, sadly, isn't enjoyable enough to put my other hobbies or goals on the back burner for. It pains me a little to leave this review, but I feel obligated to do so. Buy any Doom game for superior gameplay and replayability if you want a 1st person shooter, get Terraria or Factorio if ya want a fun time waster, Spelunky 2 or Lucky Tower Ultimate if you want a fast little game to play to break up the workday.
