I've tried, game has my favourite setting and yet it underdelivers on so many things. I've tried to give it few tries, change how I play without having to go full grind and meta design over game mechanics but it seems like the game tries to punish that on every step. It has some good design and an amazing base for a great game but it is not there now. Naval combat is just arcade since wind is nothing but a cosmetic, I had to install a mod reducing ship spawn to .33 otherwise every travel was pure naval combat from point a to point b with only one target not to get aggro from 10 ships around while fighting 3 other ones at once for no xp nor valuable reward. Xp is another issue, you get it from side quests and POI's. I did all side quests and reasonable amount of POI's that felt natural while exploring and doing side missions. Impossible to move forward like that, you have to go back and go through copy pasted poi's to progress to another zone where you again have to grind to upgrade your gear and start doing quests and base upgrades + ship. Ships - there are 3... not only that, bigger Brig (2nd class) has less cargo space than smaller ketch. It's definitely a design choice. Other than that it's no brainer to go for brethren ship that has more cargo space and HP for only 2 knots slower speed. I can't imagine how did it pass the check. And that speed is irrelevant since you always go max speed and really game almost forces you to drop teleport on each island and just grind one to another filled with copy paste POI's. Despite all that punishment I decided to try, really try to play immersive, sail around, mod helped, discover islands, explore, build, do missions. It was fun sometimes tedious, and sailing from one location to another is not what I mean by tedious, having to go into some ♥♥♥♥♥♥ island to kill 5 ghouls in ruin A, 6 boars in ruin B and 4 chickens in ruin C to collect some trash from chests in them that will award me 50XP for clearing the checkmark. At the start it was sooo strong and fun, there were special stories within those checkmarks but those quickly run out, and I was left with copy paste grind. I play without ubisoft markers for better exploration feel but that is also punishing instead of adding extra fun. Since combat gives you nothing at some point, exploration other than those poi's does the same nada, it's really frustraiting more than fun to play this game. I could go on about weird mechanics and design choices that go either into super grindy or super arcadey casual way for no reason but I feel like I said enough. There are great things in this game, amazing art choice, fun concept that I feel get's lost along the way but still, and it has potential but will it even become what it could? As of today I would not recommend but I do hope one day the game will evolve and change my mind Would I recommend it? Nah I would say the experience it tries to deliver now is way better in valheim.
The game itself is pretty good game progression is slow which is good but milestones are not very satisfying would be nice like when you get your first ship, Fighting mechanics are lack luster but have promise with some tweaking, the world is great details Im sure are to come yet but the game have great base now just the details and progression, and sometimes a bit of story and explainations. And you'd have a amazing game I give it a 4 out of 5 stars for now. But still worth playing.
Super chill pirate action and adventuring!
In regards to whether I actually recommend this game or not I cannot say yet but what I will put out there is in my opinion it is fun, is it perfect? no far from it but it is better than the triple A slop that keeps being made, I have been taking my time and playing the game as it is I have yet to go past the foothills which is the current mid-game area but so far I am liking what I see, I have few complaints about the combat system and in terms of ship building well I kind of wish we could have the option to manually build our ships similar to what atlas had where you build a shipyard get the materials and build your ship manually piece by piece except I would rather not have a copy-paste system just something close to it, if anything I think kraken express should take the 7 days to die route and give us options as to how we want to handle things in the game but that is just me, anyway I like the base building system for now but I am not one of those people who spends thousands of hours building stuff as I like to keep it simple, get the resources I need build what I need and go from there, I do wish we could do some taming in the game though like what ark survival evolved has but again not as a copy paste system, as far late game stuff well I will update my review after I get further into the game but overall I think it is fun just needs a few additions for player choices and I personally want the ability to customize ships beyond aesthetics like actually build on them or make 1 into a mobile base, on atlas I built a galleon and used it as something of a mobile base.
I like it very much. Good graphics, non-demanding survival gameplay and enjoyable exploration
