Soulforge: Lost Path is a pixel-art RPG that combines rogue-like gameplay with inventory management. It features looting, combat, extraction, customizable weapon forging, and meta-progression. As Matilda, a lost child of Gaia, you will battle hordes of corrupted souls in the underworld, experience cathartic combat, collect Sacred Remains and Infernal Relics, strategically manage limited backpack space, forge your own exorcist artifacts, and ultimately uncover the truth behind the world's corruption.

In the underworld, relics left behind by fallen explorers can be seen everywhere. Do not waste them—but beware, for the ever-present hordes of monsters will not let you open them undisturbed. But if you fall in battle, you too will rest as one of them.

In the underworld, defeat your foes, gather the Sacred Remains and Sword Embryos they drop, and forge the weapon you desire—exactly as you envision it.Yet remember: even in the underworld, you may still lose the weapon in your grasp.

Your backpack capacity is crucial. Do not forget to search for Backpack Shards in the map to expand it—this will allow you to carry more back with you, while also granting richer boons within the underworld. At times, the Tailor may even bestow enchanted magic upon your backpack—there’s no need to hurry.

In the underworld, you will occasionally come across peculiar items—some serve as crafting materials, while others can trigger wondrous changes to your spells. Take care not to lose them lightly, for you can transport them back using the mine carts that appear at regular intervals.
Hang on—at least until the mine cart arrives.
O Lamb... may you carve your truth from the darkness.

I will do this one on a 10-point scale. First thoughts though, should you buy this game? Only if it is 7 dollars or below. It is basically a rogue-lite light. It has a lot of progression trees and aspects to it, but they are all rather superficial or set in a way that it just feels like filler and not genuine progression.
If you don’t like reading long reviews skip to the total score.

Graphics – 0.5 point total – 0.5/1
If you have been on Steam for more than 2 years, it looks generic in all ways possible. Yet, it does the job in letting you know what you are using and when.
Performance – 2 points total – 2/2
Game runs fine I didn’t really run into any issues at all with lagging or frame drops like other rogue-lites.
Loot/Progression – 1 point total – 1/3
I had to merge the loot and progression together as they basically use the same resources except for the weapon crafting. You have several progression aspects, the size of your bag, base stats, skill bonuses, crafting materials and they all are interwoven. The problem with this is that it makes it so it feels like an artificial time-sink, which wouldn’t be so bad if there was variety. The skills are simple and poorly aimed at least when playing on mouse and keyboard. Plus, when you go into the skill tree you realize it is extremely punishing in the aspect that some parts of it counter other parts of it. Thus, you are left having to focus on your weapon, but oh there is a big issue there. It takes from extraction shooters and the like where you have a chance to lose your gear and that said gear only really has 3 tiers. Yes, you can smelt it and add more stats. Only problem is that those materials went into, can you guess it? The skill tree and your stat tree. So, you are stuck playing the same map, same small skill and weapon variety, poor aiming and it just gets really boring really fast. In addition to this, you only have one character. No variety there either.
Gameplay/Rogue-lite – 2 points total – 2/4
So now you see the loot and progression is kind of stalled artificially. You are stuck on one character who has no real benefits to playing as them. Plus, lots of lackluster replay ability, what do you do? You then stack up your bag with one weapon, yes one weapon. I guess the character only has one arm? But you also have to stack your bag with all the bonuses so you can take the fights easier. Remember though, if you die you only get to take a few items. So, all those items you brought and went through different runs to create? They are gone when you mess up. Not to mention, that some of those items you were bringing hoping that you got the skill for them. Then if you did not get the skill for them, you also lost space in your backpack and you risk losing them if you didn’t put them in the mine cart. Which you lost space for resources you were hoping to bring back.
Total Score – 10 points total – 5.5/10
So, to summarize, the game is great for masochists who want an extraction rogue-lite. Big problem with it though is it lacks in every aspect that makes it fill these two game types. The progression, the rogue-lite, the variety all feels copy and pasted from every other game to make it nothing more than generic. With resources shared across all core concepts to prolong gameplay that is lacking. You want combos? Limit your ability to extract resources. You want resources? Risk losing everything or replay the same map with poor resource output. I would not recommend this game unless you have money to waste, I know they have potential for more but this game needs a lot of work.

Bought it and I hate the fact that you randomly get weapons instead of getting a specific set of materials and a specific recipe instead to get your desired weapons, I might as well play a gacha game with that or just play VampSurv. You loot materials here just to play a game of chance which doesnt make any sense> also the enemies from start to the end is just 3 enemies. lacking variation. this is just sad I wanted a game with a concept of MonsterHunter with a lot of variety and playstyle, if possible create a more in depth gameplay and story. boring ahh game

Concept is okay, not groundbreaking or anything. What makes this a not recommended is that the translation currently is still very inaccurate - names of skills are all over the place and don't match each other. At times they're badly translated too: Toxic Aura is apparently not an aura but 4 puddles dropped on the ground. When you finish a run, which is capped at 10-20 minutes depending you difficulty, you can technically stay behind and fight more - HOWEVER there is a massive red popup on your screen every 5 seconds that tells you that monster will enrage soon :) Items seem to be very limited honestly would have expected to see more.

Great game, can't wait for more updates and content!
I think many people are being overly harsh on this game as I understand that yes there are issues with the game yes the beginning is a bit long and not as dopamine filled as some of you doomscrolling addicts might like but once you get into the game it is an extremely fun and versatile game and even with the issues the Devs have pumped out an update almost every day to rectify what you are all complaining about so I don't see any massively glaring issues just quit being cry babies and just say the game isn't for you.
