SmashCore is a short physics based incremental experience. Smash asteroids with your gravity powers, given to you by a mysterious core. Consume the asteroid dust and feed the hungry core in exchange for riches. Use the spoils to upgrade your gravitational powers and venture deeper into space where ancient technology and new ores are waiting to be discovered.
A key element of SmashCore is the realistic physics-based asteroid destruction, there are no health bars, collisions literally remove chunks from the asteroids.
Smash asteroids with your gravity cursor and consume the dust
Feed the ravenous core
Upgrade your gravity powers in a huge skill tree
Discover ancient technology and new ores in deep space
Open the vault to find the riches within

This is one of my favorite incremental games, for two reasons. First, the asteroid smashing game is a lot more entertaining than whatever minigame most other incremental games have as their theme (I like it a lot better than the minigame in Space Rock Breaker, for example). Second, the atmosphere. Most levels have some sort of derelict space station or spaceship in the background. But you only get glimpses at it through the pulsating red nebula. The music nicely complements these seemingly abandoned megastructures in deep space. That said, all incremental games use the same formula, and this one is no different: play the minigame, progress in a research tree, repeat until you win. It's a great formula for a casual game that lets you decompress and that still gives a sense of progression.
Good little game, took about 5 hours passively playing it; great soundtrack, great art style, solid gameplay would love to see this get an endless mode where upgrades do more than unique features 9/10
SmashCore succeeds at scratching quite a few itches I have for incremental games. Progress feels meaningful and genuine, every step forward (and even the steps backwards) feel like they're contributing to a greater purpose, they don't ever really feel like filler. This game nails the pseudo-3D bitcrunched aesthetic, it has a visual identity that I find perfect for the gameplay. A bit of color variety (like new color theming as you travel further out) would be nice, but red suits things well enough that I could take or leave the idea. SPOILER FOR THE ENDING:
I only have one gripe with this game, which is the significantly underwhelming and vague ending. You'd think some kind of spectacle or big finale would take place for a game revolving around an infinitely-processing core in space, but nope. You 'become like it' and... That's it. Some kind of visual ending rather than 3 lines of text would've been really cool.
Fun game. Worth it for the price. Not very long (which is fine and im sure by design). Either way i would recommend.
Fun game to get you through a few hours. I 100% it in my first go lmao
