Ashworth is a story-driven horror puzzle game where exploration, puzzle solving, and survival go hand in hand.
Explore a forgotten place buried beneath the earth and uncover the story hidden within its halls. Solve puzzles, search for clues, and slowly piece together what happened here but be careful. The deeper you go, the more the place begins to reveal things that were never meant to be found.
The story isn't given to you all at once.
Discover letters, hidden details, solve puzzles. Each discovery adds another piece to the mystery, gradually revealing what is Ashworth and why you were brought there.
The place is filled with puzzles designed to challenge your observation and understanding of the environment. Some answers may be right in front of you. Others require you to connect pieces of information you've discovered along the way.
But solving puzzles isn't always safe.
Something else is moving through the place.
When you're being hunted, there may be no way to fight back. You'll have to run, hide, escape, and use the environment around you to survive.
Explore the unknown.

Uncover the truth.
And as the story unfolds, you may finally understand why someone waited years for Kristina to arrive.

I think I enjoyed my short time with this game. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means but there are some really good ideas within that kept me intrigued. Some positives I took away include the puzzles. Now, some of them were really basic like lighting a couple fires to open a door but there were also some gems. I enjoyed the puzzle where you had to put in order the symbols for the graves towards the end of the game. The story was also pretty good. You get notes scattered throughout the game that provide crumbs of context to keep you pushing through - kind of similar to resident evil in a way. The game concluded in a satisfying way too which I appreciated. The soundtrack and ambiance also helped keep a tense and spooky atmosphere without doing too much. However, I do have a few bits to pick out that irked me. The game is dark - like waaaay too dark. I can barely see in front of me and rather than making it scary it ended up being more annoying than anything. The enemies also felt more like annoyances rather than genuine, frightening obstacles. For example, there is a section where you are in a tunnel trying to find an exit and a spider is scurrying about inside as well. Rather than logically figuring out the path,, it felt more like trial and error by the time I reached the exit. The final part too where a gargoyle is chasing you was also quite annoying and didn't add much to the overall game either. I was trying to solve a puzzle and kept dying to it which was, again, more annoying than frightening. So overall, I would recommend you give this short game a go. I think the dev has a lot of potential for their next project and can build off of the foundations of this game, creating a more cohesive and greater experience next time. The jumpscares got me everytime :)
