Good game. Very fun. The world is so expansive and there is so much stuff to do, especially with dlc as it adds another 40hrs. So much to do and every single decision made affects gameplay ands storyline.

There is a lot of good content in this game but asking me to upvote this game is asking me to upvote damage sponges that can eat 60 consecutive headshots from the best available bow... No, not gonna happen. Oh crap, just started a negative review and I'm already at two red helmets... The somewhat challenging base raid just became a 3+ hour ordeal of save scumming, roof cheesing, and just plain suffering. Thankfully I'm at endgame and I can finally tank those bastards even though they normally have 100x as much HP as I do. I just took the first down, so two more show up, I swear those guys have cell phones and can use the fast travel system, and their drop points aren't 500+ M away and 200m in the air from the action like the player's are... There's a lot I need to cover in this review to support my downvote so I'll have to put down a few more angry mercs to do it justice. I was turned off by the game when it first came out because of the oedepus rex quest line. I just didn't want to be anywhere near that. A recent youtube video sold me on the game saying that it had a lot to reccommend it and you could skip around that part, Ok,... I'll give it a try.... Oh crap, more mercinaries, don't these guys ever give me a breather? how many of these guys are there anyway??? Where was I, oh yes, the game desig. Ok, the game definitely has a map, and level design, repetitive though it is, but it has it. It even has story, and choices, but the mortal sin the developers made when making this game is not just the mercinaries but all of the other things that they couldn't bring themselves to cut that completely ruined it. The game has a leveling system. In more linear titles this can sucessfully provide a constant challenge while opening previous areas to more careful exploration because the enimies there get easier. In this game the enemies follow along with the player level, so you can be on your way back from Hades itself by way of Atlantis, and the enemies at the starter island are right at your level. Just saying it that way should make the absurdity plain. I was doing so much save scumming, and got so frustrated by the late game content that I had to switch to easy mode and the most relaxed version of the everyone follows your level mechanic that the game allowed, and still it was annoying in places. The leveling system should have been dropped. Need another argument? When the world auto-levels to your level, your own equipment DOES NOT. that means the player is actually always lagging the world enemies, and since you can level up at any time, you can actually get blocked on certain things and have to grind for materials. To get a glimpse of the material system, the only source of wood, (always "Olive wood" ) are these scrawny little trees. that, at that time yield maybe 20 wood, Well you need 10,000 for each of 9 categories to fully upgrade your ship, well I think fully upgrading was supposed to be a NG+ feature but well... Apparently X on the gamepad is supposed to be dodge but it was so awkward for my muscle memory and too weak that i never learned to use it. There were a lot of selectable skills, the only one that is really necessary is the combat heal, y,our char is broken without it. .Crap more mercs.... I liked shield breaker because that seemed to save me time with a lot of enemies, though became less necessary when I had enough MP to use my power attack more often... Yeah, my build could probably use help but it's just an annoyace. I tried to become king of the mercs just to get them to stop bothering me only to unlock a half dozen new tiers of mercs and have to kill two of them to get twenty feet down the road... BY THE WAY: IF YOU PICK UP A WEAPON AND POINT IT AT SOMEONE: CONGRATS YOU ARE A COMBATANT AND A FAIR TARGET!!! just saying.... Yeah, The other major thing in the game is the faction war. Ok, in Skyrim you have your red and your blue and can pick the right choice, blue, and have an enjoyable experience within the limitations of the engine there. In this game the faction war is broken from the start... Because Sparta is communist (Communism is older than the human race...) the developers therefore tilted the entire game to favor Sparta, so the player has a spartain background, spartain ties, and Sparta is the canonical historical victor of the faction war. So why even have it? When it comes down to land combat, the battles go straight into a mele. Generals and commanders drill and train their troops to use formation tactics, this minimizes friendly casualties and maximizes the effectiveness at inflicting enemy casualties. Only late in the battle after the lines break down, things can degenerate into a mele where the boddies start stacking and nobody really wins. So nothing about the faction war is really worth it. I tried to avoid it and even hitting faction targets, I thought there could be some replayability to playing one side or the other but the player really can't even engage with the system to that level it seems, adding to the pointlessness. So the econmics are broken, the factions are broken, the leveling system is broken, Hunting down your targets was actually kinda nice-ish and having mercs hunt you adds a layer of reciprocity except when the mercinaries spawn right after each other and know exactly where to look from you even when you've been in a hiding place for the last half hour... I have mixed feelings about the bird, My brain is like bapa ooh mau mau bap ooh mau mau Bird, Bird, Bird is the Verb Bird Bird Bird, Bird is the verb. Everyone knows about the Bird, bird is the virb... Yeah the bird is more of a verb than a noun in this game and its just weird... I'd steer people towards Witcher III, or the classic Cod of War titles, better fighting, feels more mythical, feels like a better use of time too. I also have to comment about the mama kas design. While she doesn't look like a troll, she barely looks like a girl either. =| I won't go as far as to say I demand Jessica from Dragon Quest VIII, but be honest with yourself, you know what a girl looks like and look at Kasandra... Newer titles like Starfield have it even worse... Let me see if i can out-run the next mercenary to the post review button...
excellent game!!!!!! it's one of the best arpgs i've played, lots of content and great storyline
Runs like garbage on a well spec'd pc. 7 mins for game to boot at last try, stuttering, etc. Made it through the first part, couldn't get much farther, issues were bothering me too greatly. Tried a few different things, though I shouldn't have to dumb down my pc to play this... It isn't Commander Keen. Maybe I will revisit later, but just lost interest pretty quickly, it was cheap though.
