Astrophobia is heavily inspired by the novella At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft.
In 2001, astronauts Ben Dyer (the player) and Henry Danforth are sent to the Moon as part of a secret mission, Project Kadath, to study ancient megalithic architecture far older than humanity. The civilization that built it did not survive, but something else did.
This is a slow-burn and narrative-focused experience told through character dialogue and environmental storytelling. The plot will unfold throughout multiple set-pieces and locations, such as the moon base, the moon's surface, and the monolithic city beneath the ground.
Immersive PSX-era aesthetics, including affine warping, vertex snapping, distance culling, pixelated textures, and low-poly models.
Exploration-focused gameplay centered on finding key items to progress through the story, enhanced by unique set pieces and locations.
Optional CRT VFX for even more retro vibes.
Horrific monsters based on Lovecraft's deep mythos and creature design.
An original soundtrack.
Low gravity hops, obviously.
Average playtime is 45-60 minutes depending on your pace. You may get even more playtime if you are trying to 100% the achievements!
NOTE: Astrophobia is best experienced in one sitting. However, there is an automatic save feature that activates at the beginning of each level, incase you need it.

The game is worth the price, I guess. The soundtrack rocks and the overall ambience is unsettling. The game is cute. The gloomy space aesthetics with CRT filtering and customizable pixelization is fantastic. The atmosphere is tense and eerie. Has enough easter eggs for an hour of gameplay, so it is kinda worth trying to explore. Not sure if the texture scratchings and wobblings are intentional, though it rather helps with the disturbing feel. The flashlight is practically useless on the default preset; moreover, it has barely any reach. And the lighting in general is vastly defective. I didn't appreciate the invisible walls blatantly restraining you from exploring. Seems like not the best way to constrain the player. What is actually exasperating here is the storytelling. The main character is dense, lacks perceptiveness and makes poor decisions. The plot feels pretty contrived. Even though the general idea is captivating enough to complete the game, it is rather frustrating to actually follow the plot. Worth playing, would recommend. Did not leave a lasting impression.
If you like PSX style horror games, then this is a fun one to spend an hour or two on. Mainly a walking simulator, but that's alright for these types of games. There's a couple of light puzzle/search elements, and you're definitely not alone in the area, but there's nothing exceptionally difficult about this game, its mostly vibes. Vibes are good though, there's even an analog filter you can toggle on and off. I played one of the dev's other games on a friend's account, GORE, and you can definitely see the stylistic similarities. It's pretty short, and the story is fairly straightforward (if you've read any Lovecraft at all you'll likely recognize certain beats right away), but its a fun one so I'll leave all that out because it's best experienced blind.
good game
The game itself is alright. Nothing too special, just a short horror game. But the main menu music is a banger! There's an achievement for listening the full track! Even though it has nothing to do with the game!

This game is not 100% waste of time, but it will waste some of your time for no reason.. the player movement is annoyingly slow, and dont you dare take a branching path.. you'd slowly walk thinking there would be something but nope. Long walking distance, slow movement, no reward.. also maybe add voice acting to the story line, my ears are doing nothing while my eyes are busy with environment and subtitles. i really liked the vibe and feeling of this game though. i think it's not worth it's price even on 25% sale..
