Palo Pori is a beautiful and peaceful village of artisans and tastemakers. Beyond the village’s protective wall, darkness has begun to stir. Ravenous monsters have claimed the land and threaten to sink their teeth into this final morsel of hope and happiness.
Play as Panko, a young, talented chef, helping to run the local eatery. When Panko’s teacher goes missing, a mysterious visitor arrives with warnings of the dangers beyond the wall. It's up to Panko to step up and take over the restaurant and tend to the ingredients and patrons. But that’s not all, Panko also finds himself serving the Caretakers, brave adventurers, sent to save the world. In this adventure, preserving peace starts in the kitchen!

In Palo Pori, fresh is best! Gather ingredients and resources, care for animals and grow your own fruit and veg to build up your very own cozy town to table restaurant. Forage for wild herbs and unlock new seeds to grow to expand your meals.
Chop, flip, and sizzle your way through mouthwatering mini-games as you whip up delightful dishes for the townsfolk. Good food is always better with company, so work hard to improve your cooking and experiment with ingredients, to keep your patrons happy.
Tailor your restaurant to the tastes of your community, develop new meals, progress your know how through a skill tree and adjust the decor to increase your restaurant’s appeal.
You’ll also need to feed the hungry Caretakers; these brave denizens of the land will venture out into the wilds to fight the ravenous monsters threatening the peace of Palo Pori. Each Caretaker hails from their own flavour region, affecting their own tastes and preferences: some like it bitter, some like it sweet and some are just looking to fulfil their craving of the day! Craft thoughtful meals and balance the flavour profiles to boost their spirits, sharpen their skills, and unlock new abilities. Because let’s face it… Who can save the world on an empty stomach?
Now it’s time to put your meal to the test! This is where taste meets tactics. The dishes you serve will build your Caretaker’s deck – each ingredient unlocking a card. And once they’ve eaten, they’ll venture into the wilds to fight the monsters. Upon their return, they’ll recount their journey and play out their battles through a charming puppet theatre sequence. They might even bring you back some MONSTEROUS ingredients from their ventures. Fight the monsters in turn-based deck building combat, inspired by traditional trick-taking card games. Outplay the monsters, by matching their flavour magic or neutralising it with a balancing card. Add an enhancing card to power up your moves! Your magic can turn the tables!
Utilize the unique effects of your ingredients to put your enemies to sleep, blow away their cards, and more, but watch out, you’re not the only one with special abilities. If you’re not paying attention, you might get burned.
In this food-based fantasy adventure, it’s time to give peas a chance! - Are you ready to get cooking?
Unlock the magic in food.

Reasonable runtime though it leaves me wishing for a final course if you will :P FYI the game isn't particularly hard so yeah... if you're looking for a soulslike experience this ain't it. Imma make this quick: -Music and visuals are lovely :D -The deckbuilder part can be quite punishing if you're unprepared -The deckbuilder is also a lot of fun to play around with the flavours and different dishes -The final region should be longer I blasted through it so fast I just got to meet its caretakers and it was all over by that point! -The previously mentioned caretakers add some much needed QOL -Even if basic, the cooking and harvesting part of the game is relaxing and enjoable though it does get repetitive and a bit tedious towards the end. -The story ain't exactly Tolkien but it has its charm. -If you're anything like me by the end of the game and have become indomitable. The final fight will be a welcome, more challenging experience. -The 20.5hrs of playtime I have were for the 100% Presonally had a great experience 9/10. Tips WARNING SOME ARE SPOILER-ISH (worst offenders sent further down): -Matching flavours makes them appear more often in your deck (ex. umami mixed with sour will make them more common) -Try to level up your chef as much as possible. Higher tier meals are incredibly useful. -Go fishing. -Side quests help with restaurant decor. More patrons=more money -Help does not rob you of XP -Vanity is just vanity. No extra benefits outside of style -Try to have at least 1 of each flavour just in case ;) -Level up the caretakers, it makes them much stronger and so does fulfilling their meal requests. The spoiler depths!!!!!! / / / / / / / / / -For the final boss you need as high damage as possible, when it comes to specific taste related nuances. I believe you'll figure it out by the time you get to that point. -The hotdogs are top right-ish. -For Figth Bites™ I went with one healing and two sleeps. Those are probably the best picks (allow to counter unexpected attacks and heal if you get too excited about re-rolls). -For the "heal 12hp in a fight" achievement. You need a healing card and heal it all in a single hit/attack turn afaik. -In the final fight, focus the boss, the enemy might hurt but I assure you, the boss hurts more. -The caretaker that the game picks out for you first for that fight is imo the best pick as Kalan can be easily fed to counter most enemies and the boss itself. (Kalan has really forgiving draw mechanics, allowing you to swap to your counters much more easily if you happen to run out)
I have mixed feelings about Beastro, but I’m leaning toward not recommending it. Most of the individual activities are fun or interesting at first, but they become repetitive, and the way the game structures each day makes that repetition hard to escape. My main issue is how farming and gathering fit together with fighting and exploring. Rather than letting me choose what to focus on or how much time to spend on it, the game feels like it has a fixed schedule that expects me to do a bit of everything, every day. What initially feels like variety eventually becomes a mandatory checklist. Expanding your home farm is a good example: instead of feeling like rewarding progress, it mostly means spending longer tending to it every morning. You’re growing your list of chores, not your options. Stardew Valley and Dave the Diver also mix different activities into a daily loop, but the balance works better for me in those games, especially Stardew. Dave the Diver has some of the same issues for me, but its routine still feels less restrictive than Beastro’s. There are enjoyable ideas here, but I wish I had more freedom to engage with them on my own terms. The problem isn’t having lots of things to do. It’s feeling obligated to do all of them, every day.
its rare that my main criticism of a game ive played is "i wish it lasted longer" but thats the truth off my chest lmao. once you get to the end of the game, it's kinda it. there's no postgame, like my save is literally right before the ending. you're pretty much either gotta finish the game or delay the ending by faffing about and letting the world end, even though theres the setup for the postgame in the ending scene? its weird, i think. i wish they just rolled with it. they couldve made a postgame quest out of the ending as well, but i suppose that they just wanted the game to be done, and there's no harm in that. there could've been a bit more stategy in the deckbuilding mechanics, like maybe some potential to run some actual builds, or perhaps an an infinite mode to make grinding easier/to see how far you can get, but again, i understand why they didn't do that. if you want something short, fun and sweet, this game is great.
Currently on day 5! im really liking this game so far! its super self paced and an easy game (so far)! im excited to get further into the game :3 the character designs are all so wonderful i cant wait to see all the care takers :)
Really love the style and art in this game. Mechanics are pretty unique and fun, albeit a bit repetitive. But it's a pretty relaxing play while not being mindless!
