As a standalone VR game, I can't recommend Beat Saber. The bones of the game are great, so if you're willing to mod it and import custom songs, it becomes a way better experience. But with just the base game, the content is light and doesn't have much variety. All the songs are roughly in the same genre, so if you don't like EDM then you're SOL. Of the 66 included songs, I only like about 5 of them. If you want more variety there are DLC packs available from popular artists, but of course these will cost you more since the devs have to pay for the licensing. And whether they're even of value to you depends on your music tastes. Of the 29 music packs, only 2 of them interest me. The campaign is a bit of a joke. Instead of being an onboarding, tutorial-like experience, the levels feature bizarre and counterproductive challenges such as "move as little as possible", "don't get a combo higher than 25", "make at least 5 mistakes", etc. So while I was hoping for this to be my go-to game for throwing on my headset whenever and wherever, the content available isn't enough to fulfill that purpose for me. Instead I'll be streaming this almost exclusively from my PC with BSManager or whatever the most popular mod manager happens to be.
My Rating: 3/5
mghhh i love pricey DLCs aughh
