OH MY GOD I LOVE HITTING FOR 1 GAZILLION DAMAGE
nice
Sadly, I played Path of Exile 1 and 2 before this, so I’m spoiled because everything there is better. Example 1: Why is it that I can’t cast abilities while moving? Okay, let’s assume that’s not a problem. Why is there less build diversity? Okay, you found a build you like and a character you like. The voice acting is low-key horrible, but whatever. Why the ♥♥♥♥ are fights made for brain rot? It’s literally a spam fest made for the ADHD mind. The closest thing I can compare this to is early Rainbow Six Siege, when the game was slow and methodical, but then it became a zoom-fest and strategy was thrown out the window. Okay, let’s assume I’m a loser crybaby. We play these games for the endgame, right? So why is it that I can’t customise every aspect of what I’m entering? In Diablo, I reached Torment 10 and that’s it. “Oh, you reached Torment 10? GG, there’s 11 and 12.” But the scaling just doubles and triples, and it’s low-key miserable. The game is made for dad gamers, and it’s made simplistic now. Am I a hater? YES, OF COURSE. How can a game made from your inspiration become better than you? They saw the system’s flaws and implemented them better in almost every way. Now, is that to say the game is bad? Nah, it’s not. It’s actually a good game, and that’s probably what makes my criticisms even more frustrating. I genuinely enjoyed playing it. The combat feels satisfying, the classes are fun to experiment with, the visuals are great, and there’s something incredibly satisfying about watching your character become stronger and start deleting entire groups of enemies. There’s also something to be said for how accessible Diablo is. You can pick it up, make a character, throw together a build and just start killing ♥♥♥♥ without having to spend 40 hours reading a wiki beforehand. Not everyone wants an ARPG to feel like doing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ university degree, and I can understand why Diablo takes the approach it does. The problem is that, for me, once you’ve experienced what Path of Exile offers, you start noticing how much Diablo is missing. I kept finding myself thinking, “Why can’t I do this?” or “Why can’t I customise this?” or “Why does the game stop me from taking this build further?” That’s ultimately my biggest issue. Diablo isn’t bad because it’s too simple. It’s frustrating because you can see the potential for something much deeper underneath all the polish. It’s like looking at a beautiful lake. You see it and think, “Wow, this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nice.” You jump in, swim around, enjoy yourself, and have a good time. But eventually you dive down and realise there isn’t actually that much underneath. And honestly, I still had a good time. I’m not saying Diablo needs to become Path of Exile. I actually think there’s a place for both games. Diablo is much easier to get into, much more approachable, and in some ways just feels more polished and immediately satisfying. But as someone who has played both PoE games beforehand, I can’t help but feel like Diablo is playing it safe. So yes, I’m a hater. But I’m a hater who enjoyed the game. And honestly, I think that’s worse. Because if the game was ♥♥♥♥, I would just uninstall it and move on. Instead, I’m sitting here complaining about all the things I think could make it better because I can actually see the potential.
