This game's a faithful sequel to the series. It has grinding, complex dungeons and a fairly simple story. It’s a solid 7/10 game that may not appeal to a modern audience. My favourite bits: -All the monsters are modeled so that if they stand right they are identical to their old game sprites making very faithful recreations while also having painted portraits for the menus. -Environments are vibrant, polished and the have variations (seasons + weather) -Monster building is forgiving and aspects of a favourite mon can always be retouched so you won’t accidentally ruin a favourite if you decide to get into the nitty-gritty of the monster combining system. -Battles can be sped up and automated for most foes.

It started out with curiosity about this side game, but I ended up getting hooked. First, for some reason, this game doesn’t require learning a lot of mechanics. You just walk around and give commands to your monsters, that’s it. Second, the monster scouting system is easy to understand, you just boost attack or wisdom and complete the story missions in that area. Third, it’s somehow just fun to combine monsters to make new ones that you need. Since battles can be fast-forwarded, leveling feels fast too, and you don’t even realize you’ve spent a lot of time just leveling. Somehow, when facing a boss monster, when you’re ready and your level is higher, you can win in just a few turns. That’s my bad habit, always leveling as much as possible before meeting a boss haha. If you ask about the flaws of this game, there are a lot, especially the jaggies, and don’t ever ask about the story haha it’s super cringe for adults, especially for those used to playing JRPGs with amazing stories. This game is suitable for people who don't have a lot of time to play games for long periods. When we leave this game for a few days and start again, adaptation can be done quickly. Whatever it is, just enjoy it. When else can we see monsters full of drama like in LoL?

Always liked the breeding system and monster design more than it's main competitor, but the level and world design could been given a little more love. Sure DQM isn't the biggest franchise and wouldn't hit the sales of a normal dragon quest, but i really would like to see a similar kind of world and love for a dqm title. We will probably never get the MMORPG which seems kinda perfect for a dqm title i guess =P Story and cutscenes were a bit dull and bloated, but i guess it still aims to be played by kids mainly. Still kinda enjoyed it, but it's only a 5,5/10 and only carried by the breeding/skill inheritance and monster design, which not really changed since the game boy title.
