It cute, and fun, and not repetitive, and good story, and good!
The gameplay is so chill and cozy, and the art & music are so soft and cute. It's been clearly made with a lot of love and I've had a great time so far! I appreciate in particular how, to me at least, it feels like it's made so you can go at your own pace.

Frog Island is a charming creature-collecting and life-simulation adventure that turns an abandoned island into a playground for anyone who enjoys frogs, exploration, decorating, and laid-back progression. Developed by DevFrog and published by Shovel Sprout, it embraces the cozy-game formula while giving its central creatures far more importance than simple collectibles. The frogs are companions, objectives, sources of discovery, and ultimately the heart of the experience. The adventure begins after the protagonist awakens on a deserted island with little understanding of how they arrived there. A mysterious woman welcomes the unexpected visitor and asks them to look after her frogs, only to disappear the following day. Left with an old collection of tools and a handwritten note, the player faces two broad possibilities: find a means of escaping the island or settle into the unexpected role of caretaker. This amusing setup gradually develops into a mystery involving the island's history and the protagonist's forgotten past. Creature collecting provides the strongest reason to keep exploring. More than 60 frogs can be discovered, including secret varieties tucked away for persistent players. Individual frogs differ in appearance, personality, preferred foods, gifts, and mementos, making the collection feel more personal than a simple checklist. Players can feed their frogs, clean them, chat with them, sing to them, dress them with accessories, and participate in interactive activities. Completing the compendium becomes a satisfying long-term objective because discovering a new frog can also reveal another personality and set of interactions. Daily life extends well beyond caring for frogs. Farming, fishing, cooking, foraging, and wildlife collecting provide plenty of smaller activities between major discoveries. More than 60 bugs, fish, and other critters inhabit the island, giving completionists another substantial collection to pursue. These systems work particularly well because they reinforce the relaxed pacing. There is rarely a need to rush toward a single objective, and players can instead decide whether they want to gather resources, hunt for wildlife, decorate, explore, or simply spend time interacting with their frogs. Exploration benefits from more than ten handcrafted environments. The scenery ranges from volcanic territory to magical flower-filled locations, helping the island maintain a sense of variety despite its relatively intimate scale. These areas are not merely decorative because exploration contributes directly to uncovering secrets, meeting unusual frogs, completing side activities, and understanding the larger mystery. Magical and divine frogs further strengthen the fantasy elements without overwhelming the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. Island customization is another substantial attraction. More than 250 toys and decorative objects can be placed using a free-form system, allowing players to transform previously empty spaces into personalized frog habitats. There are also over 60 frog accessories to unlock. The combination of environmental decoration and creature customization provides a strong visual representation of progression. Instead of advancement existing purely through statistics or menus, the island itself gradually becomes busier, more colorful, and more personal. The hand-drawn 2D presentation suits the game's personality exceptionally well. Its top-down environments are colorful and inviting, while the frogs have enough visual variation to make finding a new species rewarding. A camera and photo album allow memorable moments to be preserved, which feels particularly appropriate for a game built around collecting adorable creatures and constructing picturesque environments. Full controller support also makes the relaxed gameplay comfortable away from a traditional keyboard-and-mouse setup. Steam Deck compatibility is officially rated Playable rather than Verified. The game performs well under its default graphics configuration, its interface text remains readable, and its functionality can be accessed using the default controller configuration. The main limitation is that some prompts can display mouse, keyboard, or non-Steam Deck controller icons. External controllers may also require manually changing the active controller. These are relatively minor inconveniences, so Frog Island remains a practical handheld experience and its relaxed structure is naturally suited to portable sessions. There are some limitations inherent to the design. Players who need challenging combat, complex mechanical systems, or constant action may find the deliberately gentle progression too slow. Much of the appeal depends on enjoying collection, repeated caretaker activities, exploration, and decoration. The mystery adds direction, but this remains primarily a cozy experience rather than an adventure designed around difficulty or intense competition. For its intended audience, however, that focused approach is more strength than weakness. Frog Island succeeds because its many activities revolve around a clear identity rather than feeling like unrelated features. Collecting frogs encourages exploration, exploration produces resources and discoveries, resources support island development, and customization makes the player's growing collection feel increasingly personal. The story adds just enough intrigue to encourage players to investigate what lies beyond their daily routine. With dozens of frogs and wildlife species, hundreds of decorations, numerous accessories, varied environments, side quests, caretaker activities, achievements, and a central mystery, Frog Island offers considerably more substance than its cute premise initially suggests. It is an inviting choice for players who enjoy creature collecting, cozy simulations, customization, and games that allow progress at an unhurried pace. Rating: 8/10
