A truly fantastic game. Kinda hope they add some story packs so those of us who never played GBF can learn more about the world by playing it in this new medium. As long as the next expansion doesn't take 2 years lol
phenomenal game but enemy lock on keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ me up
Good game!
mediocre story, fun combat, beautiful graphics, amazing character design, great soundtrack this game reminds me a lot of monster hunter in the way that you play for the combat, not the story. the story is awfully generic and most of the dialogue felt unnatural. i remember there being only one line of dialogue that i thought was funny. i was only interested in one character (dude with the big sword), everyone else was pretty boring and flat. the combat is one of the best parts of this game. it plays very similarly to monster hunter, but a bit less complicated (for the most part). every character has a unique moveset with their own mechanics. i'm personally playing zeta because she's super similar to insect glaive. i like the link time and the SBA/burst mechanics. definitely a lot more arcade-y than monster hunter. it's also a lot more forgiving, the boss doesn't attack you that much because it's attacking your other party members. it's also very hard to actually fail a quest because even when you go down you can just spam buttons or have your teammate get you up. i've only completed the main story and a bit of the chapter after that so i can't say much about difficulty right now. i don't have any strong feelings for any of the bosses. they were alright and did their job. you have to fight the same bosses a few times in the story which i thought kind of sucked. flying bosses are pretty annoying especially as a melee player. the camera doesn't help, either. the camera actually sucks in this game. it loves to focus on random monsters you're not even attacking and jump all over the place. this was especially noticeable on zeta when i would loop and the camera would lock onto a random enemy/part of the boss. also, with default camera settings you can't move around the camera while looping which is dumb. i had to disable a couple of camera settings to make it tolerable. the art in this game is amazing. all of the characters are drawn beautifully and have cool designs. there are a handful of characters that have the same/very similar faces though. soundtrack was also very good. a couple of minor annoyances - there are "fate episodes" each character has. minor, but not insignificant, stat boosts and sigil slots are locked behind these. a couple of them were interesting, but the majority of them were a slog to get through. especially zeta's episodes. was literally just a little kid simping for her the whole time. also there are two combat episodes for every character, so you have to play as them. sometimes you'll have to solo a boss fight on a character you have never played before. - side quests are annoying to get to. after the main story you can teleport to major locations but for side quests you'll have to run all over the city to accept them. in folca it's fine because it's small enough, but in seedhollow it gets really annoying.
I came back to the game for the DLC, and wow, it’s honestly really fun. To be honest, I didn’t find the new characters that enjoyable. They feel a bit slow, and their builds are all pretty similar to each other. Still, the DLC was a really fun experience overall. I got another 60 hours of gameplay just from the DLC, and the new boss fights were genuinely amazing. This is easily one of the best anime games I’ve played, and I’d definitely say it’s worth trying. 7/10
