I enjoy the colorful graphics and more traditional Heroes of Might and Magic feel compared to more recent games. It's not perfect, but it's nice and chill. I have not played multiplayer or much of the campaign as I have always preferred custom game scenarios.
The AI is broken. It's either a joke that does nothing, or it's over the top unbeatable without cheating or at least cheese. The AI doesn't play by the same rules. it doesn't worry about economy or fighting neutral opponents. It automatically wins all fights against neutrals, without losses. It also levels without fighting. Bottom line, the AI is done so poorly that the game isn't playable.

it's not actually just playable, it's honestly a lot of fun also. first time since H3 we got something with variety, unpredictable endless replayability and decent tactics

after playing heroes 3 - 7 this game is quite fun me and my wife have been playing for over 60 hours together on hot seat mode and its a blast it had a little learning curve but we're getting better the AI on the low setting is dumb but still can be challenging the map generator could be better fare wise, for example i get an area with 5 chests while my wife gets 0
So I'm a tactical strategy vet. My main problem with this game is that's it's not a 4x style strategy game. Every scenario and campaign is sequence locked and set as a puzzle that you can't know how to solve until mid-late scenario. Furhter, "Normal" battles are overpowered, and it seems it's all geared to make you furious. The loop goes -> start way underpowered -> lose your initial units trying to gain resources to improve your stack-> unit's dwindle and the OP enemy stack grows until you rage quit.
