As someone who loves the Harry Potter universe and has watched all the movies multiple times, Hogwarts Legacy is probably the best thing they could have made for Harry Potter fans. Even if you’re not familiar with the Harry Potter universe, I think you’ll still enjoy the game, at least at first. The biggest problem for me is how repetitive it gets. The combat starts off fun, but eventually it feels like R2, R2, R2, R2, change your spell, and repeat. There’s barely any real progression to keep the combat feeling fresh. The game also constantly pushes you to do side quests just to level up enough to continue the main story, which gets tedious after a while. The world is huge and definitely a plus for anyone who enjoys exploring. It goes far beyond Hogwarts, with plenty of areas to explore, dungeons to find, and things to discover. Personally, though, I wasn’t that interested in exploring the outside world. One of my favorite things was flying. Whether you’re using a broomstick or one of the flying creatures, both options feel smooth and fun, and they really make you feel like you’re part of the Harry Potter world. The gear system was also simple and easy to understand. Nothing complicated, and you don’t have to spend ages thinking about builds or stats. What I really wish the game had was meaningful choices. I wanted to be able to choose between being a good or evil wizard and actually have my dialogue choices affect the story. Unfortunately, everyone follows pretty much the same path. Overall, Hogwarts Legacy is a great game for Harry Potter fans and a fun experience, especially in the beginning. But the repetitive combat, lack of meaningful progression, and limited choices made the experience worse for me as I kept playing. By the end, I just wanted to finish the game as quickly as possible so I could finally be done with it. 6/10
10/10!!!
I was hoping to like this game, to get lost in it. What a disappointment. After a few hours of running back and forth through the castle looking for tiny objects, and after finally being able to leave and explore the - empty - world... Yikes. Not for me. No wonder it went on deep sales quickly. A total flop. I recall the performance not being great, either.
