This game is fantastic. First of all, it runs really well. I do have a beast of a PC but I also game in 4k so I still have to balance my settings with my fps. I chose to play at 60fps since all fromsoftware games are locked at 60 anyways, and doing so allowed me to run all max settings in native resolution. That's fantastic. As for the gameplay, wow. Though this game has far less content as something like the vastness of other games in the genre, say Elden Ring, this game has quite a high quality. There are 1-2 riposte animations for every enemy in the game. Enemy attack patterns are also very unique, as these halberd knights for example, could literally do a feint attack into a whole other one of their combos and mix and match this. This might sound like it makes the game significantly more difficult, which it does sort of, however you can completely counteract this with some very strong builds and combos. This game features no stamina system. Stamina systems are very controversial, and I don't mind them most of the time, however I really like the design of this game where they balance out no stamina with how enemies fight. It's honestly amazing. Not adding stamina as a crutch and being confident in their combat design. Enemies can still totally destroy you, but if you play right you can easily do the same. The story is interesting. There's a deep message towards the end of the game that is literally personalized to the individual player playing to really let them know what they are trying to say. Interesting game. Also, every enemy can be dismembered in several ways. Don't see many games that add something like that.
First SoulsLike and I gotta say Im having a blast, sure am I getting punished alot but Ive got it down quite a bit. Just beat the NameLess captive, took me about 6 tries but it was an awesome fight. 10/10 game for my entry into the genre
I have a soft spot for this game. I've been enjoying this game since its first release back in 2020. I love the art, the designs and the concepts of the game. This game is amazing. A good level of difficulty and challenge. It has its flaws but the good overcomes the bad. I've enjoyed this game a lot.
Ugh, okay so while I *DO* recommend this game, there's a pretty damn big asterisk attached in the form of bugs, repetitiveness, and the ENTIRE endgame section. I thoroughly enjoyed the majority of this game, but the end section reeeeeeeeally brought the entire thing down, disappointingly so. I hate that I have way more negative thoughts about this game than positive ones, because I REALLY wanted to love this game. Despite it absolutely being a step up from the first one. -anyway, here's a wall of pro's and con's for anyone who cares enough to read through em' lmao, it's mostly for me anyway 【PROS:】 -First and foremost, Proxima. And no, not just because of her bakery - her design, voice acting, and backstory are very well crafted (yeah okay and also because of her baked goods factory) -I really enjoy the Resolve system since it encourages you to use more weapon skills without needing to rely on mana, since you get it back from fighting -Beacons fully healing you upon discovery without needing to rest at them, resetting the enemies? Really solid touch! -Combat is CHUNKY -Voice acting, music, and the overall art style are excellent (I truly enjoy the occasional *BRRRRRRR* down-tuned guitar strum lmao) -In general the first 90% of the game is pretty solid all around, with my complaints only being pretty minor 【GENERAL CONS:】 -Lots of bugs on launch, and even after almost 2 months the game still has some issues (glad to see the devs are constantly improving the game and are listening to feedback tho!) -For how long the game is, more enemy variety really would have helped sustain the longevity -I love longer games (Elden Ring), I love shorter games (Resident Evil), but Mortal Shell 2, to me, really felt like it overstayed it's welcome and started getting a bit repetitive after the first 20 hours or so -Every few level ups is just like a "1% increase of critical damage" or "+2 health", which really makes that level up feel pretty worthless, especially in the later game where you're spending 20k+ Gloom to level up -The slower weapons are fun, but MAN are they SLOW. I love the Obsidian Hammer, but it's light/heavy attacks are just waaaaay too damn slow to fight most things, ESPECIALLY when there's more than one enemy at a time. -Heavy attacks from most weapons just aren't fully worth it imo considering how slow they are given that they aren't much stronger than light attacks -Kinda dumb, but Gloom recovery can be a pain in the ass given how hard it is to see half the time lmao 【COMBAT CONS:】 -The combat in general, while weighty and satisfying, really started to feel lacking towards the second half of the game. Wish it had more variety in the way you could engage with enemies -Really wish the weapon skills you get via Tarstones weren't locked to specific weapons. Why can't the Axetana be imbued with poison? Let me have more fun damn you!! ----------SPOILERS AHEAD---------- ----------SPOILERS AHEAD---------- ----------SPOILERS AHEAD---------- 【BOSS-SPECIFIC CONS:】 -In general, most of the bosses weren't very memorable (not you, Magdalena), and some of em' actively annoyed the ♥♥♥♥ out of me lmao -Droeg isn't a particularly "hard" fight, but good god those particle/ranged attacks. Dodging felt SUPER inconsistent, and given how unbelievably easy it is to get frozen, it's basically a wipe the second you do. -The Monolith...man I can appreciate a good weird boss design, but this felt half baked. It's ground slam attacks don't read in a natural way, and the thing is so damn big you can't even see what's happening half the damn time. I get it, just keep parrying it, problem solved - but it ain't fun...at least you get an item worth a measly 5000 coins from it and the other two endgame bosses though! For some reason! -Zmey. I really can't say anything that hasn't already been said about this boss, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell. I gave up. I did *not* finish Mortal Shell 2 because of this boss, and not because it was "challenging". Isshin the Sword Saint is my favorite boss of all time. Consort Radahn and Lost Lace were manageable with enough skill and/or patience. Zmey ain't it, man. It's wonky hitboxes, it's ABSURD amount of health, the stunlocking, the borderline insta-grab attack, it's Johnny Cash attack (the physically crippling rings of fire) - and the best part is the 2 summons you get...the arena is so damn big the summons stop moving all together once the boss gets far enough away. This is the ONLY boss in the entire game that I summoned for, and even then it felt pretty pointless, especially given the fact that they disappear during the second phase. I truly, truly did not enjoy this boss whatsoever, and given that it's the literal final boss in the game, it was a HUGE letdown for me, and I didn't want it to be. 【ENDGAME CONS:】 -...I mean the entire thing, really. It overstays it's welcome, the beacon cleanse sections are repetitive, it's the same handful of enemies over and over again, and the last 3 bosses before Zmey feel pretty slapped-together and thrown in. The actual plot-ending of the game is...okay? It's sorta just like, "hey man thanks for my children, we're off to space now but you gotta stay here lmao". The endgame is REALLY what drags the entire game down for me. Without the endgame in mind, I'd be happy giving it a solid 8 out of 10, but WITH the endgame included, it feels more like a 6.5-7/10 unfortunately.
I rly love that mobs get auto aim and all , even if ur invis. Casual 5meter leaps, or insta 180 to get u because the attack just says "HAS TO HIT IF =/= dodge in 0.5sec window". Super fun great design 10/10
