I like short games and good stories, but am usually on the fence when it comes to point and click adventures. Reading the reviews people complained about the length and that they'd want to see more of the game, which only encouraged me to give it a try. The world building is definitely the highlight of the experience. There's the usual nonsensical mess that's involved with point&click adventure games, but the story itself was just alright. Still the mood and atmosphere were nice, so it was a relatively pleasant experience.

Meh I liked the graphics, but the puzzles were quite ridiculous and the story falls flat.

Developed by Cosmic Void and published by Dionous Games, Neon Hearts City is a story-focused point-and-click adventure that blends classic detective gameplay with a richly imagined cyberpunk universe. The game follows private investigator Elijah Crow as he accepts what appears to be a routine missing-person case involving a young woman named Audrey. However, as the investigation progresses, the mystery grows far more complex, drawing him into a web of corporate secrets, artificial intelligence, and political corruption. Rather than rushing from one dramatic moment to another, the narrative steadily reveals new layers of intrigue, rewarding players who enjoy carefully piecing together clues and uncovering hidden truths. The game's greatest accomplishment is its atmospheric setting. Neon Hearts City presents a futuristic metropolis illuminated by vibrant neon lights while hiding a society plagued by inequality, surveillance, and technological obsession. Strange events shape the city's identity, including the unexplained sacrifice of androids seeking humanity, an isolated tower concealing dangerous secrets, and a massive airborne prison used to detain individuals accused of thought crimes. These narrative elements do more than create visual appeal; they establish a believable world where every district, conversation, and discovery contributes to a larger picture of a civilization struggling with morality, freedom, and the consequences of advanced technology. Gameplay remains faithful to traditional point-and-click design, emphasizing exploration, environmental interaction, inventory management, and conversations with a diverse cast of characters. Players are encouraged to thoroughly investigate each location, collect useful objects, question witnesses, and solve puzzles that naturally emerge from the investigation. The challenges generally feel integrated into the detective experience instead of existing solely to delay progress, allowing each solution to move both the story and the player's understanding of the mystery forward. Fans of classic adventure games will appreciate the deliberate pacing, while newcomers should find the mechanics intuitive enough to enjoy without unnecessary frustration. The pixel art presentation successfully captures the spirit of retro adventure games while embracing a modern cyberpunk aesthetic. Every environment is filled with detailed scenery, glowing signs, futuristic architecture, and dark urban spaces that reinforce the game's moody atmosphere. The visual design balances nostalgia with contemporary artistic sensibilities, creating locations that feel distinctive and memorable. Character portraits and expressive animations further enhance dialogue scenes, giving emotional weight to interactions despite the deliberately retro graphical style. Audio also plays a major role in establishing immersion. Full voice acting helps the cast feel believable, making conversations more engaging and adding personality to both central figures and supporting characters. The soundtrack complements the detective narrative with atmospheric compositions that shift between quiet suspense and emotional intensity without overwhelming the experience. Together, the music and performances create a strong sense of place, encouraging players to remain invested throughout the lengthy investigation. Beyond its detective premise, Neon Hearts City explores meaningful themes involving humanity, artificial intelligence, authority, and personal identity. The treatment of androids and the authoritarian structures governing the city raises thought-provoking questions without overshadowing the central mystery. Mature content such as depictions of death, occasional profanity, and implied nudity exists primarily to reinforce the bleak nature of the setting rather than relying on shock value. This thematic depth gives the narrative greater significance, encouraging players to reflect on the ethical dilemmas presented alongside the unfolding conspiracy. The game's slower pace may not appeal to everyone, particularly players looking for action-heavy gameplay or constant excitement. Its emphasis on dialogue, observation, and logical deduction requires patience and attention to detail. Fortunately, the compelling storyline, consistently immersive world-building, and satisfying investigative progression provide enough momentum to keep the experience engaging from beginning to end. Every revelation feels earned, making the gradual unraveling of the conspiracy one of the game's most rewarding aspects. Neon Hearts City stands as an impressive modern interpretation of the classic point-and-click adventure formula. Its compelling detective story, thoughtfully constructed cyberpunk world, memorable visual style, and strong voice performances combine to create an experience that feels both nostalgic and contemporary. While its methodical pacing may not suit every player, those who appreciate narrative-driven adventures filled with mystery, exploration, and meaningful world-building will discover an engaging journey that successfully honors the genre's traditions while establishing its own identity. I must admit: I was surprised how much I liked this game and how good is. Neon Hearts City at its core is a classic detective story set in a cyberpunk dystopian city. You are Elijah, private eye and a “damsel in distress” asks you for help. Here it’s a mother looking for her missing daughter. You start investigating and soon it is clear that there is mor to this case then you expected... The story won’t win any prices for originality, but what they managed is to create a genuinely interesting world and atmosphere, that feels lived in and prompts you to ask questions, of which not all will be answered. This is not a small feat for a game with pixel-art graphics. It’s all done with the design of the city as well as the character and the extremely well-written dialog. There are a few minigames, fine for this kind of game and different ones at that which is also nice. The dialogues are all spoken and played and very well. While Neon Hearts City is short game (around 2hours I would say) if you are a fan of point-and-click-adventures and cyberpunk it most likely will be a feast and something that will stay with you a good while after you played it.
