I'm not currently that far into the game yet, only about 3 hours as of the time that I am writing this, but so far it is amazing, I love the art style, the combat is fluid and fun, it is pretty punishing but it's all part of the fun. Overall, I would highly recommend this to anybody who likes metroidvanias or games like Hollow Knight or even Celeste, it's a great game and I highly recommend. 9/10

Don't brush this game off as "just another metroidvania" or a "hollow knight clone", because it is so much more than that. When I played the demo a few years back, those things are exactly what i assumed this game would be... so I didn't purchase it for 2 years when it came out BIGGEST mistake of my life Genuinely really unique gameplay; both in terms of platforming and combat, ESPECIALLY midgame and onward. The parry mechanic is something I wish more 2D games did and in Nine Sols it is done beautifully. Nothing will change Yi's "Move like a butterfly, sting like a bee" core feel, but the Jade system (aka Perks, aka Charms, aka little things that affect your gameplay) was really fun the play around with and try to make some really feasible (or otherwise lmao) builds that either lean into the glass cannon mindset, or not so much. That being said, the artstyle, the Sci-Fi + Taoist themes, the storytelling (as well as the story itself), the Original Soundtrack, the characters; just the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ *vibe* of the entire game is what I like the most here. Everything the developers put into this game feels immaculate and so incredibly intentional, and you don't have to be an avid enjoyer of Chinese or Taoist culture to thoroughly enjoy all of the above listed. The lore is complex, but thoroughly explained if you look for it. Every single Database entry ties into the main overarching story in one way or another, and I would sometimes read through ten or twenty of them at a time to try and piece together the little things. Nine Sols is begging for you to get immersed in the story of the present, and desperately curious of what happened 500 years ago. Is it worth the money? Hundred percent.
