This game is SOOOO FUN!!! It scratches an itch I didn't know I had. I have always loved simulation games, and this one includes restaurants, farming, fishing, quests, and building relationships. It was a little overwhelming at the beginning, but as I continued through the story and began learning the different elements of the game, it became easier. I have played as much as possible in the 5 days I have had it! I even think about it when I'm not playing. Highly recommended!!!
Addicting and cozy. needs a bit of a performance patch, but overall a fantastic game and a new personal favorite.
I rarely do reviews, but this game was TOO good to not write a review for. I mean... The game maaay get a little repetitive sometimes, buuut... I still found myself getting super addicted to it. I'd tell myself I'd play for a little bit... and then suddenly realize I've been playing for the entire day. I've sunk 24 hours in one sitting without getting tired at all. so... Pros! (don't take this so seriously. I'm not a critic)
PROS

First and foremost... I really, really, really like the whole vibe of this game... The artstyle, the atmosphere, and the sounds for Nivalis Nights is really cozy, and I especially like the dialogue I had between all the characters. There were some... weaker dialogue that I didn't really care about, but there were waaay more interesting dialogue. There's something really cool about the thought that you, as the player... Just exists in the dense and vast world of Nivalis. Seeing everyone else move around and realizing every single one of them has the same problems as you is a cool thought. You are not special in this world.
I also really like the storyline, and as I've said before, I love the music and sound effects the game has. I didn't realize this early on, but most of the sounds in the game sounded exactly how you'd expect them to sound, if you know what I mean. I'd be seeing something futuristic happen and realize... the sound that it made DEFINITELY sounded like it's supposed to sound like that. Like it's real, if that makes sense. They all fit the game really well is what I'm tryna say.
I'm actually fine how fast time moves... I know this seems to be a problem for some people, but I personally never really had an issue with it. I think the faster time actually made the days feel more active, and I never felt like I needed it to be slower.
I'm actually also... fine(?) with how the game dumps a bunch of missions and NPC dialogue at you. 50/50. if I'm too tired, it's annoying, but if I'm feeling productive, i find it nice roaming around each place and doing a mission or talking to an NPC here and there. It feels like I'm a good guy sacrificing my comfort to help out. Day 40, and i think I've only got the apartment designing missions (and final mission) to do.
With that in mind... time for the cons.
CONS

My biggest problem with the game, is the lack of romance routes. Or, more specifically, actual dates with the NPC's.
I really wish they'd add a function where, if your romance meter is high enough, you could ask someone out on a date, or they could ask you out. It could have its own little cute storyline or something. I just feel so empty when I see my favorite NPCs walking around and knowing I can't really interact with them anymore. IDK man... I just wanted waaay more Reluca content.
2nd problem I had was the scanner. When you're too close to an NPC with an icon, the icon disappears, which makes it really hard to tell exactly where they are, or how many there are, if they're behind a wall. On the other hand, if they're too far away, the scanner can't reach them. So I'd end up running around more than usual hoping there's a dialogue NPC, or maybe a vendor somewhere in the distance, only to find nothing. And if I'm too close, sometimes I completely miss the icon anyway.
3rd problem is that, oh mah gahd, what the hell are my staff doing most of the time? sometimes they break and not do anything at all. They just stand around looking pretty instead of helping out. I think one of my venu's reached a 1 star rating at one point during my earlier gameplay because of staff problems.
4th problem I had, was that sometimes the missions felt like they were out of chronological order. I've heard people say they figured out who the serial killer was really early on in their playthrough... me, personally, I didn't have much of a problem with that. My final missions kinda tied together at the end of the game, so it felt reeaally satisfying to have everything conclude around the same time, AND end the game. Buuuuut there were times when a mission didn't really make sense considering the order of events, especially when it came to the characters. Most of the NPCs I've talked to have really high friendship or affection with me, maybe even rival points... but then I'd do a mission I had just received, only to find out it was actually an earlier mission in the story... Specifically, "Lochlan's Pain". I have no idea why i received that mission sooo late in my game, but it happened when i basically reached almost the end. Doing that mission, suddenly, the characters would talk to me as if they didn't even know me. Which honestly kinda hurts, because I had a high romance with Reluca, but when I finally got to talk to her in that mission after almost 30 game days of having no dialogue with her.. she acted as if she didn't know me at all. I didn't really like how that made me feel, But having the characters completely ignore the relationships I've already built with them kinda broke my immersion.
5th problem... Some of the dialogue led me to believe there was gonna be a date with a character i had high romance with... and nothing happened. IM BEING ROBBED HERE!
The apartment designing missions... i absolutely HAAATE those missions! they're just annoying and i wish there's a shopping list for the items i need to buy to decorate the apartment. Had to take a screenshot of the list, and run around Hive Mall like a headless chicken tryna get everything... and i STILL end up missing ONE item. I either need those missions deleted... or have those missions give me a list so i can see what I need to get.
Teleporting to venues, or Greenhouses... I need those so bad. It's very tiring walking to them all the time. I know there's a mod for that... But I just didn't use it. I didn't use any mods at all. Idk why. But still, I finished the game without them anyways, so idk if it's really a problem... Then again, i completely avoided the greenhouse feature, so I guess it's a big problem... I was never really short on cash, so i didn't really have a NEED to farm my own ingredients... stealing from the competition was good enough for me. But i would very much like to do greenhouse stuff when they add the teleport feature. I think it'd be a fun side hustle.
The last problem I've had is more of a personal problem. It's about the performance of the game... for me, the save/load screen can get a bit laggy. I'm the kinda person who saves on an empty save every time I do basically anything in the game, so my save files usually end up being suuuuuper long. The problem is... once I reached, I think, over 200(?) saves, the game started lagging a lot (nearly crashing) whenever I clicked the save or load option. I eventually had to delete basically all of my saves to not make it so laggy. It's not really a huge problem, I feel like that's more of a me-problem, but it was definitely an inconvenience.
Oh! And a snapping feature added for building... My god, i need a snapping feature. I'm a perfectionist, so i need everything to be symmetrical or straight... it's very hard to do that when I'm free-handing everything.
Overall... I super like this game, and I really enjoy the characters and storyline... But it definitely needs a looot of work! Most of my complaints are just things I wish could be added or improved because I genuinely want more things to do in Nivalis. Other than that... It's a beautiful game. I love it. [strike] More Reluca dialogue please! [/strike]

unfortunately i cannot recommend it. i really was down with the pitch, but the execution missed on multiple points. I didnt have any real performance issues (I am lucky I guess), but every game system felt confusing and convoluted and unfortunately the voxel aesthetic really didnt work for me. Would have been better to make this just a low poly game and save some perf and bigger scenes. Really wanted to enjoy this :/

The world and characters in this game are delightful beyond my expectations even after waiting for this game ever since Cloudpunk. I'm still figuring out the business side of things like where all of my money is going despite the noodle bar being full of customers. But I'm very happy to chill out and wander around Nivalis and occasionally strike up a random conversation. I use a mod to make time go by half as quickly which I highly recommend, and while I now have time to enjoy the city it feels like there is so, so much to do that if I stopped to engage with every thing that caught my eye I'd never get anything done. And that's a good thing, the city feels alive and anything can happen with different paths to take. Maybe some day I'll see it all but I feel like that will be a long time coming. Performance is much improved from release, it's still a very busy game environment though so expect it to be taxing on your system.
