This is my review minutes off rolling credits. To start, I'm a long time Onimusha fan, 3 and 5 were my favorites back in the day. So I was super excited when Way of the Sword was announced. Going into the final boss fight, playing on Action difficulty, I was thinking 9 out of 10, biases and all. It is a solid start for the franchise, both the main hero and all three villains were amazing, and the sword fights really set the game above and beyond. I hope to see more of it all in the next game. The final mission, sucked a full point out of the game. The boss rush and final boss bought out two weaknesses: one being the small move set (you get a few moves and a few toys to hone to a raze edge) and just how spongy the bosses are. I had to drop the final boss to Story difficulty and even then he was just a damage sponge, really not fun. 8 out of 10 is my final score. The final boss can use some balancing but all and all I loved this game; and hope to see more Onimusha in the future.
One of the best action games I have played in a while. Make sure to do oni gates though, i thought that they were locked behind a wall all game and beat the game with half the skills unlocked, do NOT recomend that. The skills in the later parts of the trees are so important for smooth fighting late game.
brave fencer onimusashi
some of the very best optimization in the industry imo. buttery smooth 75-95 fps on full max settings, no frame gen or upscaling (!), DLAA 4.5 and ray tracing.
Engaging story and incredibly fun and satisfying combat. I experienced zero bugs as well. I have never played any of the Onimusha games before but this one was fantastic!
