This is a story about an ordinary person who changed the world… Whenever the Chinese nation faces a crisis, there are always many ordinary yet great people who strive, bleed, and sacrifice to save their homeland. In the dark years of the War of Resistance, many brave souls infiltrated the heart of the enemy, transmitted intelligence, and killed Japanese and traitorous puppet forces. Most of them never lived to see the long night turn to dawn.
This time, you will become one of them. You will struggle through the long darkness and complete your mission in the narrowest of gaps. When you survive the inferno by sheer luck, when the intelligence you send out changes the world, when you rain hellfire upon the Japanese islands – your true mission will have only just begun.

Most of your classmates went to the battlefield, while you alone went undercover in the den of No. 86.
By day, you are a traitor, a lowly office worker squeezed by your superiors. By night, you are a ghost hidden in the glitzy darkness.

The Japanese invaders’ blades glint with cold steel; the traitors’ greed seeps into the bone; your superior’s betrayal strikes without warning; the underground resistance shines like a faint light in the dark… Every face wears a mask. Even the tenderest embrace can become a hero’s grave.

Your choices determine not only your own fate but also the fates of others.
- When everyone wears a mask, who will you stand with?
- When the Japanese order you to execute your own comrade, will you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat?
- When the werewolf‑kill game begins, will you sacrifice yourself or offer up an ally?
- And finally, when you become the sword‑bearer, will you hesitate to give Tokyo a “little boy” hug?

600 minutes of cinematic, dynamic visuals that bring to life the absurd and dark “Shangchuan” – an isolated island.
Break free from linear storytelling. Slack off at work during the day, explore freely at night. Different stories unfold in every place, every day. Your absence will even generate new stories.
To be a spy, you have to know a little bit of everything. You’ll pick locks, handle microfilm, hold your breath against a lie detector, play the butterfly knife, pour latte art – and it’s best if you’re also a high‑roller at the casino.
Every daily choice reshapes the future. Even a trivial encounter at the park at night might have a decisive impact years later. Over 30 characters, 256 decision points, 609 branching plots, and as many as 16 completely different final endings.
In the process of creation, we consulted a vast amount of historical material. Many of the story’s dates, places, characters, and events have historical prototypes. Yet even so, we know that we cannot convey complete truth through a game – because the truth is often too cruel.
Researching history is also a process of awakening forgotten souls. More than ninety years have passed. Most of the elderly who lived through that era have since passed away. Our neighbors across the sea have never truly repented. To some of them, this is all last century’s business – even if they never admit to the Nanjing Massacre, it’s time to move on.
But we have no right to move on. If we forget those ordinary people – who, in the darkest of times, suffered unspeakable horrors so that we could live decently today, and who left behind not even a tombstone – then when a new crisis comes tomorrow, there will be no one to serve as the backbone of the Chinese nation.
That is why we decided to tell this story: in the darkest years, an ordinary patriot goes undercover in the heart of the enemy. He experiences fear, temptation, pain, and betrayal. He finds his direction through confusion, and passes on the torch while the long night still endures.
If you, right now, are still willing to embrace the “imperfections” in our content and storytelling… if you are willing to travel across time to feel the fear and courage of those ordinary people who kept moving forward…
Then please, push open this door. Outside the door, time flows on – but a single voice rings out, deafening.

One of the most boring FMV games I have played in terms of plot. Thankfully there's an option to speed up the cutscenes. The main thing that turned me off was the overwhelming presence of Texas hold 'em minigames. I DESPISE card games and the fact that I kept getting the worst cards didn't help either. Oh and you'll have to replay through pretty much the whole game to get 5 or 6 of the non-ending achievements.

6/10 been a commuist is stupid haha they are full of betray. even the head betray he. anyway they japanese is bad but the whole game look like commuist even worse.
EpicDream has ambition, last year they released 3 games, and with every game they overthought the story more than the last. This year it's only 1 so far, and all of that overthinking went into this one; this game may have the most complicated branching I've ever see. 100% this game was a grind. If you only play through this game once, it's just a 7/10. I wish that besides the complexity, they'd kept the story a little more linear, because some girls completely disappear if you don't choose their route, and every one of them has a completely different branch, you need to replay the game to really feel it. The poker mini-game is painfully slow, you need to exploit it somehow to 100% the game, and even then, it'll take a while. I wish they'd just let Nakamura speak Japanese. it's half Japanese, half Chinese, and the Chinese dubbing was so bad it was out of sync most of the time. Same with the protagonist, I like the actor's voice, so it's a shame they dubbed over him. The ending is underwhelming. I wish we could have gotten a romance ending with some of those girls. But I enjoy 100% this game.

A top title for 2026 - great setting - fun moment-to-moment stuff - humour - great characters - extensive branching on the storyline - free sharp 4K DLC
EpicDream have big plans. They concluded their time-bending Game of Fate trilogy late last year with a story packed full of permutations. While not quite perfect, its ambition cannot be denied. Patriot Memoirs has similar strengths, with a remarkable branching narrative and great romances. And without the confusion of time-travel, the story holds a better tone. Beginning in 1939, you play as an undercover Chinese agent planted at an administrative office under Japanese control. Your goal is simple: kill a senior Japanese official. But when is the best time to strike? As you help allies, side activities crop up to keep you busy. The story is more like the day in the life of a spy, rather than an action thriller. This makes sense given the romantic interludes, but it did need a fraction more tension and spy-craft. Many threats are conveniently eliminated, often as a scapegoat, which is a little too easy. The advantage of this is that the funny scenes fit better with the grounded tone. Romance is widespread and high quality. Not all five main love interests are on equal footing. Veteran actress Zhu Zhilin is usually good, but her character, Zhao Shuying, is a petulant child. Yang Yongzhen is excellent in the first two chapters but then she disappears. The graceful actress, Li Lingyu, has appeal, but the bond is weaker, much like her endings. So the best romance belongs to Mu Jianqiu and Deng Jiaru. The first works odd-jobs and the other is your boss’s elegant girlfriend. Both have amazing interactions, like a kiss outside a cinema and a coffee-shop exchange. Sentimentality with them is also high. A significant amount of all romance can be missed, depending on player choice, and unrelated endings may offer a different glimpse at their future. The narrative spider web is impressive. Aside from splits based on affection values, where you go after work unlocks destinations in future chapters. You can run errands for a ‘bad’ guy which gives you an easy out in the finale. If you are generous with a local gangster, he might come to your rescue. You can see different sides of a bank heist. And saying no to a date will offer a video montage that clarifies an earlier bombing. All of it builds a fantastic, layered narrative. Thankfully the timeline explains how to access each path. While generally easy to follow, the number of choices, randomness of a casino poker game, and flow-on effects mean getting 100% is tedious and might take 16 hours. This is around triple the time for one run through. Video quality is great, even without the 4K DLC. Audio is good, mostly recorded live on-set, but the foreigner voice dubbing is horrible. While many FMV games promise choice and consequence, few deliver on this scale. And with such good romance, it is a potent combination. Patriot Memoirs aims high and hits close to its target. Don’t miss it.
