TLDR: Game meh, good w/ friends. community is 4/10, half spam, quarter trash talk, quarter connection. Simple buttons make game worse. I have thoughts and suggestions before the game dies. Mainly comprised of maybe 9 actions, disregarding thumbstick direction, as its largely irrelevant during dribble moves since the steal action covers the entirety of a character model's lateral space and the dribble window of effectiveness is so miniscule that you have to use it well before a reasonable person would attempt a steal. I dont profess to be exceptional, but as much can be observed even in the tutorial. The lack of variety game to game is probably the biggest drawback, due in large part to a simplistic control scheme, no real sense of achievement or room for expression outside of dress up and "ooooh, i get an unnecessarily long animation to forcibly play in between goals." The primary reasons i cant recommend it are due to the precedence set forth by Sloclap themselves, they are historically notable for not investing time and effort in order to better their games or the systems themselves a la Absolver. While I love Sifu, its just a single player, dumbed down Absolver with much better told story and lore. That simplification haunts them in this game, based on what I've seen, as it would appear even casters for their esports sound to be falling asleep in the middle of an "invitational" that was "in partnership with SloClap". One of the best things i think SloClap can do to quash some of the issues ive seen that are feasible from a game development perspective are implementing a "character background" offering simple modifiers to each player, per character. whether with life backgrounds or positional ones is mostly flavoring imo, but imagine a goalie bg getting the extra diving range whether in net or connecting with a long header off of a pass (w/spam protections, obviously), maybe your strikers have a higher power ceiling, allowing for a faster or longer range shot. Just some sample ideas, but the game needs some extra seasoning to shake up the match to match gameplay loop. Oh, and for the love of god, let the scoring player choose to bypass the celebration.
