A psychological horror about searching for your missing dog in a forest where the silence itself listens to your every breath from between the trees.
Just you and your dog, Pablo, far from the noise of the city.
A quiet weekend getaway. A secluded cabin deep in the woods — the perfect escape from everyday life.
But the night has other plans.
Pablo vanishes without a trace into the suffocating darkness of the forest, and calm turns into a nightmare in an instant.
No phone. No signal. No help. Only the woods and the growing, oppressive silence.
Your goal is simple: find him, no matter the cost.
Darkness is your enemy
In this forest, your eyes will fail you. The darkness devours everything, and something watches from between the trees.
A dangerous call
Whistle for Pablo to find your way in the dark — but be careful.
Every sound you make draws not only him closer, but something else as well.
Your hearing is your compass
As long as you hear his distant barking, you are not alone.
But how long can you trust your senses in a place where a single mistimed sound can turn you into prey?

Horror is not usually my favorite genre, but Shroud of the Woods really impressed me. It’s atmospheric, creepy, and the sound design fits the experience perfectly. The mysterious story kept me curious and made me want to explore further. Definitely recommended if you enjoy atmospheric psychological horror!

I don't feel the need to debate whether this game needs the Short-🏷️ or not — which is also because I had gone through the demo a few times before already; even forgetting to pet Pablo this time around 😇 — and maybe it's even more charming this way, because I'm reminded of certain Psychological Horror games that ended up being tediou💤 ... Apart from some (in)sanity-implementations, hard to compare, but Amnesia: Rebirth really is a [strike]good[/strike] bad example! That put aside, why am I playing Psychological Horror games? Or why do I prefer Psychological Horror movies above all (a c🅾️cktail as in the Saw series works too)? I'd output at least Mystery (🕵️♂️)/Immersion; (Audiovisual) Atmosphere 🏷️ as of now = ✅‿✅ +/+ The sound design is really good, and especially effective & helpful for enemy-proximity, while the player can't see much through fog, grain (filter) and the pitch-dark w👁️_👁️ds on its own! It's exhilarating, because it adds to the unpredictability/surprise effect ... +/+ There's definitely a Mystery-aspect, and one will find out/has to find out what's reality and what's n🧠t
without further s;poiling
; +/+ I'll just copy-paste what I wrote elsewhere: overall, definitely some creativity/neat surprises and I love the psychology in the narrowest and broadest sense 🍏🧠🍎; +/- I'm hesitating here, as I had been looking forward to some more dog/Pablo content, but I personally expected a bit more ... Pablo DLC, or wait, maybe I was meant to have júst read THIS, to at least add it 🕊️💡[⚠️🪦] +/- Coming back to immersion; how about the lack of voice acting?! I surely missed something near the end with The Ranger(-achievement), but then again, I'd prefer silence > AI-usage (when resources aren't available) ✌️ What matters is, how you FEEL at the end, and while it was yesterday, I felt slightly emotional due to mirroring this with his dog-reality, satisfied enough due to some light puzzle elements (not cliche or dime a dozen) and I sensed it was enough value for money! Though, truth be told, I THINK in g🟢🟢dwill with this developer, but I don't think this affects my review in any way, and for references, you could check my Hostile Dreams 2 review 💡When I stress my brain cells, I could think of some minor things other than the graphics, and speaking of those: I'd guess, at times, they may not suffice for many (during other sections than the woods), and I found them somewhat cheap-looking too, but distracting? No, and it's all about immersion and being focused here, so it depends 🚦 🐾🐾🐾🐾/🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Did not expect this game to be as in depth as it was. The environment, sounds and jumpscares all hit 10/10 The story was hard to follow, none the less a good play. Check out my gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD-F5u71hkY

This game turned out to be genuinely excellent. It blends several genres together remarkably well, combining horror with a strong liminal space atmosphere while constantly keeping the story engaging through unexpected twists and revelations. It has mystery, suspense, just the right amount of surrealism, and even emotional moments. As more pieces of the puzzle fall into place, the narrative comes together beautifully, making the entire experience feel satisfying and complete. This is exactly the kind of solo indie project that doesn't try to be bigger than it needs to be. Instead of chasing unnecessary features, it focuses on a well-designed gameplay loop supported by a carefully crafted story. In the end, it delivers not only an enjoyable experience but also a meaningful message that everyone can take something away from. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys psychological horror, liminal spaces, and story-driven games. For such a modest price, it offers an exciting and emotional 1.5–2 hour experience that's absolutely worth your time. Play it in the dark with headphones on if you can—it makes the whole experience far more unsettling and immersive. This is a genuine hidden gem among today's sea of generic, formulaic releases. I sincerely hope the developer continues creating games with the same level of creativity, passion, and attention to storytelling.
