I really enjoyed playing through TOEM 2 but I've gotta say, it did feel like TOEM 1.5 instead of a proper sequel. Don't get me wrong, the ingredients that made the first TOEM an instant classic for me are still there: beautiful dioramas, great music, quirky/memorable characters and an overall cozy vibe. Pretty much once I started the game, I could hardly put it down, and I finished the entire thing in a few play sessions. However, something was missing from TOEM 2 that is a bit hard to explain. If I think back to the original game, I can still remember certain puzzles or characters that felt more memorable overall - such as finding the yeti on the mountain or finishing a whistling song on another level. In the sequel, it seems like quantity has gone over quality a bit. Not bad quality, mind you - the puzzles were fun to solve but that was pretty much it. The first TOEM felt like it was building up to something - but here, there is no catharsis really at the end of the story. The best way to describe it is to have a look at the level selection screen: in TOEM 2, it's just a list that ends with a final level, but in the first TOEM, you get see a map and as you are finishing the game, you know that something special is coming at the end. So yeah, sometimes less is more when it came to the design of the puzzles - but hey, if you liked the first game, I think you will enjoy this one a lot as well. I'm certainly looking forward to any expansion/DLC but at the same time, I wish the sequel would have felt a bit more special, you know? Nevertheless, while TOEM 2 doesn't completely live up to its predecessor's place in my eyes, it is still an awesome cozy game that I can very easily recommend!

Good Game. competed 100% <3
very cute and very fun! but sadly nothing really like the magic of toem (1) for me. i had a hard time trying not to compare this to the first game, which makes sense considering i did only finish toem yesterday! but what i really liked about the first game is that the world felt very big, you’d get to revisit areas again for future purposes, whereas this doesn’t really happen in toem 2. this world felt a lot smaller to me, you’d complete areas and there wasn’t really any reason to go back to them besides cleaning up maybe some collectable achievements, the world just didn’t feel as connected and whole to me for some reason. the puzzles are a lot easier and the game generally just feels like it’s been toned down, everything was kind of laid out in front of you compared to the first game where you really had to think. this game is a lot shorter too, i got about 5 1/2 hours of gameplay whereas i got over 9 hours in the first, and both were with taking my time and completing everything to 100%. i don't mind a shorter game but i found myself wishing there was more, i was surprised to see that certain achievements had already popped even though i didn’t really feel like i was halfway through yet! the ending was lovely and pretty, but it kind of felt the same as the first, i was expecting something a little different but i can still appreciate it for what it was. i did still really enjoy this game and i would recommend it! it’s a very unique and fun world and i always enjoy going through all the different areas and completing the quests. collecting everything is very very fun. id love to keep seeing more of toem, i think another DLC/expansion at some point would be incredible, and i’ll continue to look forward to whatever the devs make next! thank you for another lovely play in the world of toem :] (and also, i loved the aquarium so so much.)
