TRADESMAN: Deal to Dealer is a game about a merchant who rides around in his horse-drawn (or bear-drawn) cart. Starting his journey in his home village of Grampstead, the Tradesman heads off to the other towns and villages of the world. Stock up on marine morsels in Fishpool, quench your thirst at Grubgrog Village's renowned tavern, sell basic necessities in Hoboken, and trample the dirt in Normingham, the capital of these lands!
Trade: buy up stock in one place and sell it out wherever your goods are needed most to earn money and gain trading experience.
Automatic battles with active skills: the roads are perilous, and the more goods you have in your cart, the more dangerous they become.
Your wares aren't just a basket with a price tag - each product has a range of traits that complicate transportation.
Many unique types of mercenaries, each of which you can take a shine to, but not enough to think twice about swapping them out for a better mercenary.
Consumables: study the culinary arts to cook meals and feed your mercenaries. Use power-up scrolls and books to lecture your mercenaries.
Buildable talents: talents for combat, trade, social interactions, and survival.
Transport quests: work as a taxi driver and drop off drunks, children, and wounded guards.
Classic quests: head to marked points on the map and fulfill various characters' requests.
Soulslike quests: go god-knows-where and do god-knows-what.
Plot quests: plot quests!

Kept waiting for the fun to start and it never did. Biggest beef, not being able to customize the merchant at all. No name change, no gender swap, no different outfits. Didn't enjoy playing as the little grinning ginger demon. Jokes aside, I enjoyed a lot of the mechanics and the concept is solid, it was just too difficult and grindy to be fun. Dev talks about it being as hard as you make it, but the challenge level is skewed so high, that you are stuck taking tiny bits of goods to far off places for very little money for way too long. The boss battles are also insane hard and not fun at all. Also, no healer mercenaries feels bad. It's cheap, so buy for yourself and have fun pulling your hair out. Maybe you enjoy, but for me, not much fun.

I got a lot of mixed feelings about this game. I got 53 hours in the game and really only explored 2.5 of the 4 zones and maxed out reputation for 2 zones. So take this review with a grain of salt. The reputation grind is a fast way to lose a lot of time. Especially if you don't recognize that you're likely better off running at 3x speed. Otherwise, you're spending ages waiting for combat to finish once you use one of your 4 abilities. Admittedly, the developer does say they only intended people to play for like 30 hours so 53 hours might have been pushing it for interest, but at that point, I was just going through motions to complete long and tedious quests. By then I was already pretty bored. Overall? It wasn't bad. I mean, I did play for 53 hours. If a 2nd game came out, I'd probably play that one.

There's just to many cases of "there was a better way to do this and make it more fun" going on with this game. Reading through the discussions it seems the end-game still isn't properly tuned meaning you could spend 50+ hours only to have to go back and acquire the "right" set of mercenaries, train them up and so on....yeah that's not worth it even at $5 For a game about trading I've spent too much time in the auto-battler and I've had too many XCOM moments with 99% chance to guard my cart while we camp only to wake up with my 5 most expensive items missing. I'd give this game another shot if it cleaned a lot of things up and streamlined the gameplay more but as is this one's going back on the shelf.
