I had played Cold Steel I-III when it became clear I needed to backtrack to the beginning of the series so I had an adjustment period as the scope and scale of the story was dialed back. I'm very glad to see the improvements to gameplay and the overall production quality. Estelle being a doofus is very endearing.
This is one of the game where I feel like I really want to continue to the next chapter immediately. Some of the characters are fun, which I like it that way. The gameplay mechanics are not bland, even though sometimes I feel confused at first. Also the story is soo good and make me want to know the rest of the story.
I finally decided to dive into a new JRPG rabbit hole that is trails, and I'm sad to say I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hooked just by this first game.
This game was a slog. I genuinely don't understand whats supposed to be good about this story. There is slow pacing, and then there is this. I felt like i was wading through endless masses of fillers. A competent writer knows how to make a enjoyable prologue, and a catching start to a story, so the fact that this game is the way that it is makes me come to the conclusion that the writers of this series must not be competent. The audacity to charge full price for such a game is just baffleing.
