I came here to write a review after experiencing a couple weird inconsistencies, and after reading other reviews I fear my comments are very much in line with much of the discourse about this game being AI-generated. First, let me say that I don't really follow game development very closely usually, so when this game popped up in my suggested games I just added it to my wishlist and bought it because it was a typing game and it had a medieval art style. However, as soon as I started playing the game I was confused by the lack of information about *how* the game was supposed to work. The way the cards you receive work is never explained, and instead you just have to learn intuitively how long each card might last, what it does, and whether or not it offers a permanent buff or a temporary change. While strange, I figured that since the game was kind of like a roguelike (if you squint) that maybe that was intentional, but it really doesn't make any sense. On a recent round of the Hard mode, I was offered a curse by the witch that said it would reduce my attack *by* 1. Instead, it reduced my attack *to* 1, which basically killed my run then and there. I have noticed more inconsistencies across the cards (sometimes I select and use a card and it does nothing or it doesn't do what it described it would but something else entirely) and zones (the full health zone never fills my health to a number that makes sense). I really want to like this game, but it is largely repetitive and if the majority of the assets are really AI-generated (I'm not expert in this area, but I do see the things other reviewers are pointing out) then I'm very disappointed that I ever spent money on this game. If you don't know how to do a part of game design, then teach yourself--isn't that the point of making something?

The Dev is an AI Scam Artist lying through their teeth about how much AI is used in their game AND how much of an "enthusiast" of AI they are. The dev is putting in concerted INTENTIONAL EFFORT to HIDE THEIR LIES. The Dev made a forum post to discuss AI usage, then when commenters called the dev out on their lies, the dev DELETED the whole discussion, and has now been CONSISTENTLY DELETING ANY DISCUSSIONS related to AI within hours of posting. (I have tested this and you can too!) As of writing, the dev has claimed: "I want to clarify right away that I am not an AI enthusiast, though I understand that this topic can be sensitive for some. Type Or Die uses AI for card icons and sprite animations. All other aspects of the game (design, programming, voice acting, music, interface, and the majority of the artwork) were created manually. If the game achieves a certain level of success after its release, I will hire a specialist artist to handle all of that." That's actually updated from claiming "just the icon art is AI", and that they WILL "hire an artist before the game's release to replace the icon art". (Which... why wouldn't you just have the same hypothetical artist who made the other art make the icon art??) The game is in full release and has done nothing to curb any of the AI usage whatsoever. - The voice acting is BLATANTLY AI. You can hear the "trembling" in the voice. - Every single piece of art I can see in the game has tell-tale marks of AI. - The "Revenge for your fallen master" starting story is so generic and uncreative, I am sure it was written or suggested by AI. - The entire thing was defintiely vibe-coded, based on all the basic programming bugs I have seen. - I have no reason to doubt the music is even AI. - And there's no WAY the dev did any of the translations without AI. - There's also NO CREDITS for anyone or any assets in the game. (Makes sense, given the writer, designer, programmer, artist, musician, and voice actor WERE ALL AI.) - - - [Gameplay] And EVEN IF you can look beyond the Dev choosing to be a scumbag deceiver about their love and use of AI, the gameplay is just B L A N D. Enemies have no mechanical differences between them to make them stand out from each other. Without even boiling it down, the whole game loop is just: - "Write words faster than this timer" - "Get a stat boost card that's maybe helpful" - "Sometimes a dude will take away one of your stat boost cards" I kid you not - that's all I did for 15 minutes. There was no thought put into the game design or flow. The dev included elements that make other games popular without actually applying WHAT makes the games popular for including those elements. - Like, all the die roll does is move you forward out of combat to the next enemy. And you get stat upgrades whenever you stop moving outside of combat. - So... what does getting +1 die even do for you? Less upgrades and triggering the boss battle sooner? Having extra dice clearly has no benefit, AND the next encounter was always so close, it didn't even matter. And EVEN THEN the effect to add an extra die only worked HALF the time. - So WHAT IS THE POINT??? There's so many things that are both unintuitive AND unexplained. Like the card mechanics: - You get a card, and it gives you a stat boost - sure, that makes perfect sense. - You get a card, and it gives you 5coins, but the enemy attacks first. But I didn't get coins and the next creature didn't attack... what? Why is there both a Kill Count and a Level Count? What does either one do? Are they just for show? There's really no downside to practically button-mashing the entire keyboard. Imprecision is not a downside. - - - And again, I wouldn't have bothered with this game at all if the Dev would have just be upfront about their AI usage. Or even come clean about their lies. But I guess lying sells. Refunded within 15 minutes.

It's okay when it works but more often than not, at least on hard mode, it glitches out and you can't do anything except listen to the galloping noise of the guy moving on the map.

There's a lot wrong, here. First off is the TRULY BAFFLING amount of generative AI. Let me do a little TLDR. Before the game launched, the dev had a discussion area for the use of AI, and claimed that he ONLY used it for the icons (even if you only have one eye and half a brain, you can tell that most of the art, including essentially all of the UI and containers, is AI generated). So of course people were mentioning this repeatedly in the discussion thread, there were 40+ comments. The day that the game came out, the entire thread disappeared. Now if you ask ANY questions on the discussion page about AI, they are deleted within an hour. Also deleted are the comments regarding the fact that when you quit the original demo, your browser force-opened a Google Form asking for feedback- which was really invasive and made me question if there was any malware in the game. So the dev claimed that only the icons were AI generated, and is now going on a crusade to try to remove any evidence of the prior discussions or critiques. Well, sucks that you can't turn off reviews. Here are other reasons why you don't want to buy or play this game: -It's $13. That's crazy for a game of this length, simplicity, and quality... especially since it seems there was very little human intervention. -The game is broken in many areas. There is no way to tell what is going on with the card/bonus system, and you can't see what cards are affecting you, and how. -There are visual errors left and right, bad grammar and syntax, and mismatches between ability labels and how they actually affect your horse. -The gameplay genuinely gets boring. There are no creative mechanics, it's just typing the same combos of a randomized list of about 50 words together. The only thing that changes is the length of time you have to type, which gets progressively shorter as you continue through the battles. -The gameplay itself is awkward; most of the time, you have to type to progress the game, but sometimes you are asked to use your mouse. -Bad tutorial that doesn't really clarify much. -No way to see your current buffs via the cards, the system is confusing. -The wizard that combines cards sometimes combines them into a worse or equivalent card, it just makes no sense when he says he'll make a rarer card. -Mismatch of art style, and there is no point to the dice- they literally just move you along, then roll, then move you along, again. You could achieve the same thing with one dice, or just moving with your WASD keys. -There is no way to tell card rarity because there is no designation on the card for its rarity; different cards have different text colors, but there seems to be little correlation to whether that's due to the category or rarity. Overall it's a lazy, uncreative AI-slop game made by an overdefensive person. Do not waste your money, there are way more fun typing games (made by real people). I also don't trust the dev's moral compass considering the force-opened Google Forms from the demo and the fact that he's deleting and covering up the AI discussions. That's super shady.
