Voodoo Fishin’ is a 1–6 player online co-op creepy-cozy fishing game featuring proximity voice chat and swamp-dwelling surprises.
Venture into the bayou with friends in search of rare and legendary fish. The deeper you go, the stranger things get.
Fish together. Laugh together. Try not to lose your haul. If you die, the swamp keeps your catch. (And any Tackle you have equipped)

Craft your puppet angler and hit the dock!
Then dress them up with Puppet Parts you can only earn out in the swamp.
Lil’ Lucile, Jonah Swol, Kenny the Mechanic, and Sketchy Steve all need a hand, and they don’t always want to explain why. Take on 37 missions, from tea parties to “legally ambiguous” deliveries, and earn exclusive Tackle and Puppet Parts you can’t get anywhere else. The locals move around the swamp every day with a new mission of the day, so keep your eyes open.

It’s chill… until it isn’t. This swamp hunts back.
This swamp hunts back, and some of what lives here is bigger than the fish.
If you make it back alive, the Fish Monger pays by the pound.
Every fish your crew sells fills a shared Dock Quota. Hit it and the whole dock unlocks upgrades like bigger coolers, Sprint Boost, and Jump Boost. Two Fish Mongers each offer their own Bounties and Quota rewards, so pick your prize as a crew and start hauling.
Need backup? Bonk a buddy’s fish with the Fish Club, or toss chum from the Chum Bucket to get a fished-out spot bubbling again.

If you make it back alive, the Fish Monger pays by the pound. Sell your junk at Rusty Remy’s, hunt for deals at the Pawn Shop, and upgrade your Bait, Reels, and Rods to chase bigger and rarer catches. Then pay Auntie Brigitte a visit for voodoo-enchanted bait that lures in the swamp’s strangest species.
The swamp doesn’t run on corporate servers. Voodoo Fishin’ is self-hosted, so once you’re in, you can always jump back in with friends. No server shutdowns. No “service discontinued.”
The swamp stays open as long as you can stay alive.
The demo provides access to the full core gameplay systems, but limits world exploration and higher-tier Tackle.

Has some interesting autistic fishing mechanics, but ultimately leaves much on the table in terms of a fun experience. Grind is too much for gear; gear is easily lost to deaths; deaths come too easily from platforming problems and enemies with limited avoidance tools; enchanted lures are an interesting progression that require RNG and some time, but with one tiny mistake on the reel, it's lost. These could be mitigated by meta progression enabling more stable gear options, but meta progression is just +cooler slots and +movement mostly. These frustrations would be less frustrating if there's more of a reason to deal with it. The same 5 enemies lose their 'wtf' factor after you've seen each one. The map has very little mystery to it that makes exploring rewarding. There's no story or anything meaningful to work toward, other than catching some new fish (then again, I quit after losing enchanted lures so never caught voodoo fish).
I like the game, I really do. otherwise I wouldn't have spent nearly an entire day playing it. But I wouldn't recommend it to someone else as a good game. Heres what I gotta say. The most frustrating part, and why I stopped playing is that I Would die, some kind of BS terrain related death. and my gear would be unrecoverable. because in order to recover it, I would have to go exactly where I just died.. thus dying to the terrain again this happened atleast 3 times in my 12 hour play time. I enjoyed the game enough to grind my way back up to better gear, but the fact that it just kept happening really drove me away Otherwise the game is fun but unpolished It needs more information about where and how to catch fish trying every form of bait in every body of water *is* an option, but its not very fun. there should be a way to sort fish and bait by what you are looking for. I like the idea of having upgrades come during the time in the lobby, however I don't think speed and cooler upgrades should be tied to lobby. I think those should be tied to the player I think the things like chum buckets and mallets should be tied to the lobby. If you're the dev, I'm willing to change my review with additional progress to the game. I would like to see the map expanded, maybe new kinds of fish added. I think more side quests would be cool. This game has a lot of potential to be a cozy game, and I want to see it happen.
I am an avid lover of fishing games and goofy games. Picked this up thinking it could be a good marriage of the two like Gone Fishin. But this game doesn't explain much and has such a punishing grind that it feels punishing to even play the most basic version. I also could not find a sense of progression for what we are trying to do in the game. Very confusing and a reliance on icon info without much explanation about the icons. A glossary would have been great. Also an explanation of the biomes. A fish prefers fast water and rocky bottoms? Awesome, what does fast water look like in this game? Slightly choppy but in a lake setting. And that is just us guessing because there was zero information on how to define those terms beyond "I see rocks here and there, is that what a rocky bottom is? Nevermind, some random stupid thing just ate me again.' If you like Gone Fishin or similar games, stay away from this unfinished confusion of a genre.
Voodoo Fishing is a solid “Friend Slop” game where you and your buddies explore the monster infested bayou in search of weird and fantastical fish, the fishing mechanics are novel and it doesn’t waste your time getting you into the fun of fishing and exploration as quickly as possible. The world is one massive candy bowl of fun visuals and level design, and the game is in active development, so there will be more content developed for this game as time goes on.
Fishing:
In order to fish in this game, you will select a rod, reel, and lure; then, you will head out you the body of water of your choosing, and cast your lure. From there, you equip your setup (press F), hold on the left mouse button, then swing from right to left or down to up with your mouse. The power of your swing and the spool potential of your rod determines the range you are able to cast. Then, after a ten seconds, you will either get a fish, some junk, or nothing on your. If you get a fish, swipe your mouse to set the hook and scroll down to reel it in. keep in mind that there are fish that are deeply tenacious, so be patient and keep your eyes on the rod (if it bends to the red side, quickly stop reeling.) If you fish on open waters, be wary of powerful fish that’ll spool your line for miles upon miles, you can avoid this by fishing in smaller ponds and tight corners. Rods determine the distance you can cast, reeling durability, and black recovery speed. Reels determine the depth you are able to fish at and the amount of line on your spool. Some Reels allow you to fish on multiple or all depths, so be aware of that. Lures are use to target specific fish based on their desire of bait and their status as well as one special lure used to reel in chests, coffins, briefcases, and trunks. You can also enchant certain types of lures to target the elusive voodoo fish which inhabit the most dangerous parts of the map or just target rare and legendary fish. The final thing I’ll touch on are daily orders and fishing quotas. Check in daily to see what fish you need to grind out to maximize profits, and make sure to fill out the quota to receive upgrades you your speed, jump, equipment, & cooler by selling off fish (different fish mongers have different quotas, keep that in mind.)
Enemies:
The monsters of the Bayou are an ever present threat in Voodoo Fishin’ which helps to keep the player on their feet with their eyes and ears wide open; whilst no single enemies is difficult to deal with, they can force you to pack up camp or prepare ahead of time with special items either to divert their attention or huddle into a tight, warm space with your buddies. You can craft Voodoo Decoys or Voodoo Sparkies as your measure of distracting/warding off enemies, and for some of them, you can just pick up a turtle, a fish, or some trash, and just chuck it at them as a little offering for safe passage. Keep in mind, if you die to anything in this game, you will lose what ever you are carrying (only being given a single chance to retrieve fallen equipment), so route your paths carefully. Enemies like Charybdis, Giant Bats, & Giant Spiders block tight corners of caves, forests, swamps, and scaffolding whilst Slenderman, Nessie, and The Shroud haunt specific regions of the map forcing you to plan how to deal with them in their own domains. Kroks, Krakens, & Skeeters pop out of the blue to force you into a quick retreat with the unassuming man-eating pitchers just waiting for you to stand right under them for a quick meal.
Exploration:
The entire level design of this game is not huge (taking about 2 to 5 minutes to reach any given location,) and you are given no map other then a compass telling you what region you are in. Do not fret, though, because every location is tight in its design and radiates out from a central lake, it is hard to get lost once you start memorizing key features in the environment; and with the added speed and jump boosts, you will speeding like Lady Godiva on a racing car parcoring through rocks and trees using the most optimal and safe routes to sell off your fish and enchant your baits. What also makes exploration great in this game is that every location is distinct in color, lighting, mood, and motifs which turns even small details into little handy guides of where you are at and what shortcuts you can take or even make; and the further you run around, the map, the more hidden areas you will find, more locations for legendary and voodoo fish will be discovered, and the more safe spots you will know about. There are 4 questing NPCs which will test your ability to search & navigate the map for special items, voodoo fish, enchanted baits, and other activities which will require you to utilize your ability and knowledge of the map to search out their locations as well as the locations of items they need. You get 1 quest per day, so make sure to check in daily to get all of their rewards
Artstyle & Music:
The art style of this game stands out a lot compared to many other games even outside of the fishing genre (horror, non-horror, & all). The characters are a combination of American Deep South aesthetics mixed with Voodoo Dolls with body extremely exaggerated body proportions and simple coloration which kinda gives off this stop motion aesthetic which is reminiscent of “A Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Caroline.” As for the environment, you have boldly colored, hard edged, and thickly designed 3d environmental assets which usually have their edges highlighted with streaks of creamy whites or yellows, and the fish share similar aspects to the environment, but are given more groves and patterns and swirls to give off this sort of enchanted feeling, and the Voodoo Fish specifically share hard, white forms that pop out of the body with an enchantingly purple body underneath making them easily distinguishable from the rest of the fish in game. So far, there are 4 total soundtracks for this game which you can switch through at spawn which are all fairly good, they each have their own mood and tone which you can play as you explore the swamp. None of them are overbearing, or over the top which is the right move for a game that is about having a good ol’ time out in the Bayou.
All i catch is junk, i was trying to fish because i thought this was a fishing game BUT it seems like i was mistaken because apperently its a game about cleaning a lake. I can't stand the junk, the amount of junk in this game causes me pain.
